Officials announce six dates for Gathright Dam pulse releases
The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will deviate from Gathright Dam's existing water control plan in order to conduct six pulse releases near Covington, Virginia from June through October 2017.

Labor Day weekend earthquake doesn’t rattle district
The Sept. 3, 2016 5.6 magnitude earthquake reported in Pawnee, Okla., rattled several surrounding states, include several projects in the Kansas City District. When such events occur, dam surveillance plans and emergency action plans are in place so staff know how to respond.

Command Sergeant Major tours Sacramento District
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Command Sergeant Major Antoio S. Jones visited the Sacramento District for the first time August 16-17. Jones’ itinerary included visits to two district-operated reservoirs, Black Butte Lake and Englebright Lake as well as the Folsom Dam Auxiliary Spillway project. j

Local teachers develop STEM curriculum through Corps externships
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is committed to supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs in partnership with local educators. Three Stratford STEM Magnet High School teachers recently participated in an externship at the Nashville District Headquarters and at Old Hickory Dam that will help them develop project-based curriculum and facilitate applied learning.

Hartwell power plant repairs increase efficiency, cuts costs
SAVANNAH, Ga. – A maintenance team is improving operational efficiency and cutting costs at the Hartwell Dam Power Plant by rehabilitating deficient generators. Recently, staff thwarted the imminent failure of unit 4 when several burnt coils were discovered during scheduled biennial outages. The timely discovery resulted in an economical response that returned the unit online within its established biennial outage.

16-021 Dworshak flows to fluctuate while testing hatchery water systems
AHSAHKA, Idaho – Water discharged from Dworshak Dam and Reservoir will fluctuate Thursday and Friday, April 28-29, as staff conduct testing of the Dworshak National Fish Hatchery’s total dissolve gas (TDG) degassing equipment, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water-management officials at the Walla Walla District.
