  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City of Buffalo Celebrate Protection of Critical Infrastructure at Ralph Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District and the City of Buffalo celebrated completion of the new seawall at Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park during a ceremony today. The $10.6 million project included repairs to over 1,300 feet of seawall. The seawall protects one of Buffalo’s most critical pieces of infrastructure, the Col. Francis G. Ward Pumping Station, and one of its most popular recreation spaces, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park, from flooding.

  • USACE Buffalo receives $23.936 million through Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District received a total of $23.936 million through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (DRSAA) Work Plan to complete projects across the District’s area of responsibility. IIJA operations and maintenance funds are released one year at a time, and more funding for fiscal years 2023 and 2024 is likely to be identified at a later time.

  • Significant Navigation Upgrades Being Made to Cleveland Harbor Infrastructure

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District is making more than $16 million in upgrades to the breakwaters that protect critical infrastructure in Cleveland Harbor. As part of multiple projects, repairs and extensions are being made to portions of the more than five-mile-long structure which allows for navigation between the City of Cleveland and Lake Erie. This ensures the harbor’s ongoing value to the local and national economy.

  • Village of Crestline to Receive Financial Assistance from USACE for New Wastewater Treatment Plant

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, entered into an agreement in November 2021 with the Village of Crestline to provide $1,075,000 in partial funding assistance toward the Village’s design and construction costs for a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), pump station and force main. The Village’s current plan includes construction of a new separate treatment train at the existing treatment plant site, and replacement of the Park Road Pump Station and force main. The total project cost is estimated at over $14 million.

  • Village of Lodi to Receive Financial Assistance from USACE for Water System Improvements

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, entered into an agreement in November 2021 with the Village of Lodi to provide $1,075,000 in partial funding assistance toward the Village’s design and construction costs for water system improvements. A survey of the Bank Street water tower (constructed in the 1930s) showed extensive corrosion on the riser of the tower, and the tank’s components were given a poor rating. The Village proposes to construct a new 200,000-gallon water storage tank on Evergreen Street and to replace the water main, services, valves and hydrants on Janice, Redfield, and Baker Street from the new tank to State Route 83. The preliminary cost estimate for design and construction is $2,637,950.

  • USACE completes substantial repair of confined disposal facility in Lorain Harbor

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District and its contractor, Akron-based SAF, Inc., completed substantial repair of a confined disposal facility in the eastern end of Lorain Harbor on October 13, 2021. Construction on the approximately $300,000 project began in August and returned the CDF’s earthen berm to its initial design height and added seed cover for added stability and prevention of future erosion. These repairs will maintain the facility’s remaining capacity of nearly 300,000 CY for the placement of dredged sediment, allowing it to be used for the next two to three years of maintenance dredging in the harbor in support of the local industries and economy.

  • USACE completes substantial construction of beneficial use of dredged sediment placement area for new wetland in Ashtabula

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District and its contractor, Michigan-based Great Lakes Docks and Materials, L.L.C., have completed substantial construction of a beneficial use of dredged sediment placement area in Ashtabula Harbor. This phase of the project included creation of a submerged 1,500 linear foot stone wall off the west and south portions of the Ashtabula Harbor East Breakwater at a cost of $6.5 million. The wall will retain approximately 400,000 cubic yards of dredged material used to create a new wetland ecosystem.

  • USACE Buffalo District completes fiscal year with $205 million program

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District closed out fiscal year 2021 executing a $205 million program. The Corps of Engineers seeks to maximizes opportunities for small businesses to participate in projects and, in turn, for small businesses to help USACE strengthen and vitalize the nation’s economy.

  • USACE Buffalo District updates Ohio harbor community with dredging newsletter

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District has published the Ohio Dredging Newsletter to inform stakeholders and the public about the nine Lake Erie Harbors it supports across the state. The newsletter provides an update on the status of dredging at the end of fiscal year 2021, and initiatives for FY 2022.

  • Record of Decision released for the former Harshaw Chemical Company FUSRAP site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, has released the Record of Decision for Operable Unit (OU) 1 and OU-2, Former Harshaw Chemical Company Site. The 55-acre former Harshaw Chemical Company Site, which is located at 1000 Harvard Avenue in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, is being addressed under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP).
