  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers & Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation Celebrate First Phase of Construction on Buffalo Outer Harbor Wetland

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District and Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) celebrated completion of the 2023 construction season’s work on a new wetland ecosystem being built in Buffalo’s Outer Harbor. USACE and its contractor, Michigan-based Ryba Marine Construction Co., placed bedding stone across the mouth of the abandoned Shipping Slip 3, forming the first layer of a submerged breakwater to contain material dredged from the Buffalo River and placed in the slip to create the base of the new ecosystem.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will begin the fall drawdown at Homme Lake, near Park River, North Dakota, Oct. 31.

  • Employees share career crafts with students for Tennessee STEAM Festival

    ANTIOCH, Tenn. (Oct. 24, 2023) – Corps of Engineers employees representing a variety of career fields shared their crafts with students at Antioch Middle School last week during a sanctioned Tennessee STEAM Festival event. Hundreds of sixth, seventh and eighth graders observed demonstrations and presentations and took notes on the many opportunities to pursue careers that require studies focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
  • Minneapolis locks closing Nov. 1 for the end of navigation season

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is closing its Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam and Lock and Dam 1, both in Minneapolis, to commercial and recreational vessels for the end of the navigation season Nov. 1.

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2023) – Thalle Construction Company celebrated reaching 500,000 labor hours without a lost time accident in constructing a larger navigation lock on the Tennessee River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recognized the remarkable milestone last week and thanked construction workers for their role in delivering a project of national significance.
  • Nashville District showcases projects to Army’s assistant secretary for Civil Works

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District showcased two of its mega construction projects on the Tennessee River and its hydropower rehabilitation efforts at Barkley Dam on the Cumberland River last week to the assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
  • Corps seeks public comments, hosts open house on Big Lake restoration study

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking public comments on its draft Environmental Assessment, or EA, for Big Lake habitat rehabilitation and enhancement study on the Upper Mississippi River near Wabasha, Minnesota and will host a public meeting Nov. 8 at Wabasha-Kellogg High School to discuss the project.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the area below Cordell Hull Dam known as the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area is closing today for 90 days while construction work is underway to stabilize the rock bluff below the dam.
