  • Safety first: Northwestern Division’s occupational health nurse hopes to prioritize health and safety across the division

    Active construction sites can be dangerous places. Full of heavy mechanical equipment and other hazards, the risk posed to the workers at these sites is often high. But there are other, less obvious workplace dangers that even those who spend their days behind a desk can face, like stress, high blood pressure and lack of support or fulfillment. Those charged with preventing and mitigating these workplace dangers play an important role in the success of an organization but are often in the background, working behind the scenes. Occupational health professionals and other safety specialists are the frontline for workplace safety. Yet their services can remain elusive to the very employees they serve.
  • LA District joins law enforcement partners to clear San Gabriel River encampment debris

    To improve the health of the San Gabriel River and reduce risk to the public, including those illegally camping within the riverbed, the Los Angeles District cleared trash and floatable debris throughout most of December from a stretch of riverbed near Azusa, California.
  • 23-056 Dworshak Dam releases to increase beginning December 4 for turbine testing

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Dworshak Dam will be increasing releases starting Dec. 4 to accommodate testing required for turbine maintenance. The public can expect the Clearwater River below the dam to change several feet between December 4 and 9. River users should use caution.
  • 23-054 Turner Gulch courtesy dock will be removed until March 1, 2024

    Boise, Idaho – The Turner Gulch seasonal courtesy dock, maintained and regularly adjusted under license agreement to Ada County Parks and Waterways, will be removed from Dec. 1, 2023, to March 1, 2024. The ramp will remain open for use without the courtesy dock.
  • Innovation leads to productive season for safety upgrade at Moose Creek Dam

    With the onset of winter, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District capped off a successful summer by doubling its progress from last year to build a cement barrier wall in the center of the dam. The safety improvement project is now about halfway complete as the team works to reinforce 4.7 miles of the 8-mile-long earthen structure.
  • USACE lauds Kentucky Lock Addition Project contractor for safety milestone

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2023) – Thalle Construction Company celebrated reaching 500,000 labor hours without a lost time accident in constructing a larger navigation lock on the Tennessee River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recognized the remarkable milestone last week and thanked construction workers for their role in delivering a project of national significance.
  • USACE awards construction contract for Kissimmee River Restoration Navigational Warning Signage

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a construction contract for Kissimmee River Restoration (KRR) Project Navigational Warning Signage, located in Okeechobee and Highlands Counties, Florida. The non-Federal sponsor for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project is the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). USACE awarded the contract for $2,645,604.74 to Eagle Engineering & Land Development, Inc., Naples, Florida, on September 28, 2023.
  • NR 23-36: Cordell Hull Lake uses partnership grant to improve Bear Waller Gap Trail

    CARTHAGE, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2023) – Cordell Hull Lake recently received a Handshake Partnership Grant in partnership with Smith County Rescue Squad to make improvements to Bear Waller Gap Trail in Defeated, Tennessee.
  • NAVIGATION NOTICE: SWL 23-56 - McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System

    Mariners are advised that crews will be placing rip rap around the Van Buren Railroad Bridge (NM 300.8).  Work will be performed daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., September 25 through October 4, 2023.  Mariners may contact the onsite workboat, M/V Pine Bluff, on VHF-FM channel 16 or 78 or by phone at (318) 452-5448.  Mariners are advised to transit the area with caution.
  • Navigation Notice: SWL 23-55 McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System

    Due to shoaling, mariners are advised that until further notice, both upbound and downbound tows should favor the short wall in the downstream approach at Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5). Also, a 70-ft width restriction is in place to reduce the risk of grounding in the area. Crews are being dispatched to perform digging and clamming operations in the reach. A subsequent navigation notice will be issued once the shoaling has been cleared and the 70-ft width restriction has been lifted.
