    CARTHAGE, Tenn. (July 25, 2024) -- Cordell Hull Lake is about an hour east of Nashville. The location, like some other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District lakes, juxtaposes the hustle and bustle of the city with a peaceful and scenic woodland setting. But make no mistake; there’s still a noticeable “buzz” of workers that keep themselves just as busy as the city folks: They just opt to work in honeycombs rather than office cubicles.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville and Memphis Districts, in collaboration with the State of Tennessee, convened a successful biennial partnering meeting on July 24, 2024. Hosted by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner David Salyers, USACE Memphis District Commander Col. Brian Sawser, and USACE Nashville District Commander Lt. Col. Robert Green, the meeting at Ellington Agricultural Center aimed to enhance the cooperation and communication between USACE and other key agencies throughout the state

  • Critical Repairs on the Way for Dunkirk Breakwater

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $7.56 million contract to Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials, LLC on June 25, 2024 for repairs to Dunkirk Harbor’s breakwater. Repairs to the breakwater maintain Dunkirk Harbor’s viability and contributions to the local economy, protect some of the area’s best waterfront recreation, and ensure a harbor of refuge for vessels on the Great Lakes.

  • Detroit District accepting entries for annual photo contest

    DETROIT – The Detroit District invites the public to enter its 9th annual photo contest highlighting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites across the Great Lakes. The top 12 photographs highlighting Detroit District projects on the Great Lakes such as the Soo Locks, Duluth Ship Canal, piers, breakwaters or federal harbors and channels will earn a spot in the 2025 downloadable calendar. The entry deadline is 11:59 p.m. July 31, with winners determined by public voting on social media. The Soo Locks Visitors Center Association will award the top three photographers a plaque featuring their winning photo. “The Detroit District is proud to continue this annual tradition,” said District Commander Lt. Col. Wallace Bandeff. “The photo contest captures the beauty of the Great Lakes and allows us to see projects that we've designed, built and now, maintain from a whole new perspective.”

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has scheduled aerial mosquito treatment on July 23rd, over the federal property on Craney Island.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District Welcomes New Commander

    Lt. Col. Robert Burnham, a Beaufort, South Carolina native and a veteran of the Afghanistan war, assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District on July 18. Burnham will lead the district's more than 300 team members, responsible for projects in 16 commercial and 19 recreational Great Lakes harbors, leadership of the Radiological Waste Design Center for USACE's Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, operation of the Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area and the historic Black Rock Lock, as well as many other roles across a more than 38,000 square mile area of responsibility.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 652d Multi-Role Bridge Company will hold a training exercise at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Fountain City Service Base and adjoining USACE properties, Aug. 6-11, in Fountain City, Wisconsin.
