  • Corps of Engineers invites public aboard the largest diesel towboat on the Mississippi River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District will provide two opportunities for no-cost public tours aboard the region's largest diesel towboat, the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI, at two ports in early August. For safety and COVID-19 concerns, groups will be limited to 10 with a maximum limit of 80 visitors allowed onboard at any time while all will be required to wear a mask and temperature checks may be required.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 31, 2015) – The public is invited to an open house on board the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI when it is docked at Ross’s Landing in Chattanooga from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. The vessel is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ largest diesel towboat and flagship to the Mississippi River Commission, which is inspecting Tennessee Valley Authority and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District projects along the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers as part of the commission’s annual low water inspection trip.

This 241-foot-long workhorse for the Army Corps of Engineers will travel down the Arkansas River Aug. 12-14, and the Corps invites the public to view it as it moves downstream.
