Corps invites public to hike rediscovered segment of Trail of Tears

SMYRNA, Tenn. (May 13, 2015) – The forced removal of Cherokee Indians east of the Mississippi River in 1838 to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma is described by the Cherokee Nation today as the “trail where they cried.” A rediscovered segment of the Trail of Tears near the East Fork Recreation Area is providing new insight into what they experienced during the journey across Tennessee.

Librarian shares digital resource with federal retirees

HERMITAGE, Tenn. (March 3, 2015) – Driving to the library, using card catalogs, wandering aisles and exploring shelves are unnecessary tasks if searching for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers resources. That’s why the Nashville District Librarian highlighted valuable features of the USACE Digital Library with a group of federal retirees today at Hermitage United Methodist Church.

Nashville District showcasing historical maps from 1800s

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 16, 2014) – An 1874 military map of Middle Tennessee and 1888 map of Muscle Shoals were recently restored and replicas of them are now being showcased in the Barlow Conference Room located at the headquarters of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District.
