  • Power Team successfully turns over final USFOR-A AIF Project

    On September 21, 2019 at the Power Governance meeting at the U. S. Embassy, Kabul Afghanistan, the Power Team successfully turned over the final USFOR-A Afghanistan Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Project Southern Electric Power System (SEPS) Sangin to Lashkar Gar to the Afghanistan Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW).

  • Deputy District Engineer earns Superior Civilian Service Award

    Mr. John E. Drake II, distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious service as the Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management Directorate (PPMD) during his volunteer deployment to the Afghanistan District in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL from July 31, 2017 through his redeployment to CONUS mid- December.

  • Albania telemedicine network fully connected

    TIRANA, Albania – Albania’s telemedicine network is completely integrated and functional following a large-scale effort by U.S. and Albanian partners to overhaul a dozen facilities around this small country in southeastern Europe. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District, in partnership with U.S. Embassy Tirana’s Office of Defense Cooperation and U.S. Agency for International Development, managed renovation of 12 telemedicine centers over five years in a $1.9 million venture funded through EUCOM’s humanitarian-assistance program.

  • Europe District engineer team returns as Liberia is Ebola-free

    WIESBADEN, Germany – The remaining military members on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers team sent to Liberia for Operation United Assistance made it back to Germany earlier this month, just as the West African nation was declared Ebola-free. The Europe District contingent assisted with treatment center construction and helped sustain a DOD presence that numbered 2,800 personnel at its peak.

  • Last 2 Ebola treatment units completed

    U.S. and international agencies carrying out Operation United Assistance have wrapped up work on the final two of 10 Ebola treatment units in Liberia, a top engineer with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) said Jan. 23. Europe District’s Forward Engineer Support Team-Advanced played a part by providing technical expertise.

  • USACE mission in West Africa aimed at supporting Ebola containment

    WIESBADEN, Germany – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has joined the fight against Ebola in West Africa. Europe District’s Forward Engineer Support Team-Advanced departed Oct. 21 for Monrovia, Liberia, to take part in Operation United Assistance, an Africa Command mission to provide logistics, training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts at containing the virus outbreak in the region. The deployment could last up to six months.

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deployed a team with engineering and engineering-related expertise to Liberia in support of Operation United Assistance, which is part of the comprehensive U.S. Government Ebola effort in West Africa led by the U.S. Agency for International Development.

  • Corps of Engineers takes the road less traveled to assist in rebuilding Haiti

    USAID called on the expertise of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, to assist in rehabilitating and improving more than 150 kilometers of rural roads in Haiti. Poorly designed, constructed and maintained feeder rural roads (FRR) are a major constraint to agriculture development in Haiti. High transport costs and significant spoilage due to the poor condition of roads in Haiti have reduced competitiveness in domestic and regional markets.
