• NR 22-09: Cordell Hull Lake closes swim beaches

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 19, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the immediate closure of Defeated Creek Day Use Swim Beach in Carthage, Tennessee, as well as Roaring River Swim Beach in Gainesboro, Tennessee, at Cordell Hull Lake. These closures are due to high bacteria levels in the water, presumably attributed to low lake levels, recent heavy rain, and runoff from adjacent farms.

    Researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) recently welcomed Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commanding General and 55th Chief of Engineers, for a meeting at CERL’s facilities in Champaign, Ill.
  • Temporary lock closures to begin May 9 at Brandon Road Lock on the Illinois Waterway

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will begin daytime closures of the Brandon Road Lock located in Joliet, Illinois, beginning May 9 to facilitate installation of bulkhead recesses which will later be used to perform critical maintenance on the lock in 2023.

    FLORENCE, Ala. (Apr. 19, 2022) – Beginning May 1, 2022, recreational vessels navigating the Tennessee River through Wilson Lock, will only have passage three times during daylight hours.
  • Army Corps announces repairs, single lane closures for Chesapeake City Bridge

    PHILADELPHIA (April 19, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District announced repair work on the Chesapeake City Bridge in Cecil County, Maryland will begin in April 2022 and require periodic single-lane closures over a period of several months. Work includes repairs of the bridge superstructure steel, painting of the main span, and expansion joints.

In the workplace, passion has motivated Marin Blaisdell to be a successful materials engineer for the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL). But a separate passion has driven her to compete in figure skating at the national level. Blaisdell knows the importance of dedication and precision, whether she is in Anchorage, Alaska, performing CRREL strength tests on snow patches used for rapid airfield crater damage repair, or perfecting a double salchow-single loop-double loop; she knows it takes perseverance to achieve her best.
