• District’s leadership development class develops outreach tool in English and Navajo

    Each year students in the district’s Leadership Development Program work on a project that both benefits the district and allows the LDP student team to incorporate and apply the new leadership skills they have learned in the program. In 2024, the students developed engaging and accessible audio content highlighting the missions of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District.
  • Raystown Lake announces access opportunities for Canada geese hunting

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District announces the opening of multiple recreation areas for Canada geese hunting only. The following recreation areas will be open from January 31 – February 22, 2025: Bay Drive in Seven Points, Seven Points Beach, Tatman Run Beach, and Weaver Falls Recreation Area. Signs with maps will be posted in designated hunting zones.

    After 45 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Raystown Lake Operations Project Manager Jude Harrington is retiring. His illustrious four-decade career with USACE was celebrated at a retirement event on Jan. 8, where colleagues, family, friends, and community members gathered to reflect on his dedicated service and contributions to the Raystown community.
  • Innovative Bioreactor Technology for Treating Industrial Residues

    The “Method for Treating Reducible Compound Residues Using Iron-Containing Bioreactor” provides a sustainable solution for managing industrial waste by utilizing iron’s unique properties in bioreactors. Filed in September 2017 and granted in September 2024, the patent was developed by two researchers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

    The tow haulage equipment at James W. Trimble (No. 13) NM 292.8 is currently out of service. Double cut tows will have to be locked the conventional way (without the use of tow haulage). A follow up notice will be distributed when the tow haulage equipment is back in service.
  • Soo Locks Closing for Seasonal Repair, Maintenance

    The Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan will close to all marine traffic beginning 11:59 p.m. January 15, or until commercial traffic ceases, through 12:01 a.m. March 25 to perform seasonal critical maintenance. Federal regulation (33 CFR 207.440) establishes the operating season based on the feasibility of vessels operating during typical Great Lakes ice conditions. “Every year, the Corps of Engineers uses the non-navigation winter period to perform maintenance and keep the Soo Locks operating,” Maintenance Branch Chief Nicholas Pettit said. “The Soo Project Office team works long hours in extreme conditions to complete a significant amount of maintenance during this annual closure period. The work they perform is unique, especially given the harsh northern Michigan winter conditions they work in.”
