• Corps of Engineers to host two open houses onboard Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District will provide two opportunities for the public to tour the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI at no cost while it is in the region. Public open houses will take place: Saturday, August 5 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. along the riverfront in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Tuesday, August 8 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Melvin Price Locks and Dam in Alton, Illinois.
  • USACE announces availability of the Final Draft LOSOM Water Control Plan and Project Delivery Team Meeting and Listening Session on July 24

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the availability of the Final Draft Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) Water Control Plan and a virtual LOSOM Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting and listening session scheduled for Monday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Larger than life: A history of Dworshak Dam

    In May 1948, floodwaters on the Columbia River overtopped the cofferdam where construction was underway on McNary Lock and Dam. This flood, one of the largest on record, was one of many documented in the region since the mid-1880s. The propensity for flooding in the Northwest sparked much discussion about regional flood control.

    In western Connecticut in the 1990s, a young middle-schooler, Robert Nahabedian, saw the United States Military Academy (at West Point) campus from the river courts along the banks of the Hudson River for the first time during a school trip. In his mind, at this moment, a seed was planted.

  • Louisville VA project to include two parking garages

    Louisville, Ky. – One major difference the new Louisville VA Medical Center will boast over the current Robley Rex VA Medical Center is the addition of two parking garage structures compared to surface lot parking for patients. It’s hoped that these parking garages will be a welcomed addition for patients as they will not only provide more parking but provide shorter distances to the medical center.
  • South Farm to host Wood Stork & Wading Bird Event Saturday, July 29, 2023

    A Wood Stork & Wading Bird Event will be held on Saturday, July 29th at the South Farm of the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area Complex. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries would like to invite everyone to view this spectacle. Wood Storks and other wading and shore birds can be viewed in this area as they are drawn to feed in the South Farm’s water management units.
