• Missouri River Basin runoff forecast improves but remains below average; Fort Peck Flow Test underway

    As warmer weather moves into the Missouri River Basin, spring precipitation brought some much-needed moisture throughout the basin. For the month of April, runoff was 2.1 million acre-feet, 71% of average, for the basin above Sioux City, Iowa. The annual runoff forecast for the upper Missouri River Basin above Sioux City is 19.2 MAF, 75% of average, and 1.7 MAF higher than last month’s forecast.

  • Army Corps announces lane closure plan for Reedy Point Bridge repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced lane closures will be enacted along the Reedy Point Bridge in New Castle County, DE. Lane closures will begin on/about May 28th and last through mid-August as part of ongoing repair work to the bridge.
  • Corps invites public to learn more about Sabula Lakes project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, in collaboration with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, invites the public to attend an open house May 14 to learn more about an ecosystem restoration project planned in the Sabula Lakes on the Mississippi River. The event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League located at 60190 US-52 in Sabula, Iowa.
  • Civil Works | Memphis District, civil work, winning for 142 years

    As the Memphis District joins in celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the USACE Civil Works Program, we’re reflecting on our contribution to the program.  The Memphis District as it exists today, is descended from several organizational units, extending over 142 years. The Mississippi River Commission (MRC) established the Little Rock River and Harbor Office in February 1881. That office assumed charge of improvements on the Arkansas, White and St. Francis rivers and tributaries. Most of this work involved removing snags and debris from channels. Some of these waterways would eventually be assigned to the Memphis District.
