• MKARNS Nav Notice SWL 19-10 Possible Obstruction in Navigation Pass Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5)

    MKARNS - Mariners are advised to use caution when using the navigation pass at Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5). A 45-foot light pole atop the navigation pass abutment pier was knocked over the night of March 22, 2019. The pole is now submerged and may be on the port side (facing downstream) of the navigation pass.

  • Gavins Point releases set for 27,000 cfs Monday, Upper basin snow melt beginning

    Releases from Gavins Point Dam will be increased to 27,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) Monday, March 25. The pool elevation declined .3 feet in the past 24 hours. The mountain snowpack remains average and plains snow melt in the upper basin is beginning.

    Due to record unregulated runoffs across Nebraska and Iowa, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District has deployed teams across the Upper Missouri River Basin to continue to provide both technical and direct support.
  • Corps provides updates on current levee breaches and damage assessments

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District continues to work with state, local, and tribal governments to repair damaged levees from the 2019 unregulated runoff event. There are over 350 miles of levees on the Missouri, Platte and Elkhorn rivers and tributaries that have experienced significant flood damage. Due to the magnitude of damage along these levees, repair efforts will take an extended period of time. The Omaha District is initiating efforts to perform damage assessments as water recedes and access to the levee system becomes available.
  • Omaha District Begins Levee Repair

    As part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District’s aggressive recovery from the 2019 unregulated runoff event, the District began breach repair on the Union Dike levee near Valley, NE.  Due to the potential of additional precipitation, the breach on the Platte River impacts public safety in the local area.  Repair work is expected to take six days to complete.
  • Gavins Point releases will not reach 20,000 cfs, Fort Randall releases to resume Saturday

    Gavins Point Dam releases have been maintained at 24,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) since Wednesday, March 20. The new forecast is to increase releases from Gavins Point Dam to 32,000 cfs once the crest on the Big Sioux River reaches Sioux City. Releases from Fort Randall Dam will begin on Saturday, March 23 at a release rate of 4,000 cfs. On Sunday, releases will be increased to 12,000 cfs. Travel time from Fort Randall Dam to Gavins Point Dam is about 1.5 days.
  • 19-023 Corps seeks public input on proposed Section 408 for Cascade Natural Gas Corp. Mill Creek Channel directional drilling project

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) seeks public comments regarding the Corps’ proposal to grant permission pursuant to 33 United States Code Section 408 (Section 408) for potential alteration to a Corps-constructed river improvement (public work). The Corps proposes to grant Section 408 permission to the Cascade Natural Gas Corporation (CNG Corp) to directionally drill perpendicular to and under the Mill Creek flood-risk-management channel and levees to install a new 8-inch-diameter natural gas pipeline segment.
