• Corps to open more parks on Norfork and Bull Shoals Lakes

    MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mountain Home Project Office will open more parks on Friday, Aug. 21 around Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes. Some parks never opened this summer and remained closed because of high water and operating procedures related to COVID-19.

  • Wiesbaden Outdoor Recreation Center earns LEED Silver certification

    About a dozen attendees witnessed the awarding of a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver award during a ceremony Aug. 11 at Clay Kaserne. U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden’s newly opened Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Outdoor Recreation Center was certified LEED Silver by the U.S Green Building Council after meeting LEED Silver standards.
  • FIRO HELPS EXTENDS REC SEASON AT LAKE MENDOCINO, SOUTH BOAT RAMP UPDATE

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close access to the South Boat Ramp at Lake Mendocino effective Tuesday, Aug. 18, 9 a.m., due to low water levels. The lake’s other access point, the North Boat Ramp, has previously closed due to the same reason, and Mussel Dogs are no longer conducting inspections there. The two ramp areas, though, will remain open for day use and small non-motorized boating access to the lake.

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduling a lock closure at David D. Terry Lock & Dam on the Arkansas River from 6 a.m. Aug. 19 until 6 p.m. Aug. 29, so workers can perform required tests on critical components of the lock.

    Every day while walking to elementary school, Ryan Day said he remembers seeing a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) habitat restoration project sign along the Little Calumet River in Indiana. It wasn’t until years later, while speaking to a Corps rep at his university’s career fair, that he found out exactly what USACE does. And now, this civil engineering student is one of several summer hires getting firsthand work experience at the Chicago District.
  • Contract awarded for Carrollton Floodwall Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for the Mississippi River Carrollton Floodwall project in New Orleans. The $8.9M construction contract was awarded to APC Construction, LLC of Algiers, La. Construction is expected to begin in late September and be completed by March 2022.
