    Tom Fayram, deputy public works director for Santa Barbara County, briefs Lt. Gen. The Corps, as assigned by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is removing more than 450,000 cubic yards of debris from 11 basins and 10 channels in areas of Santa Barbara, California, hit hard by the disaster that left 18 people dead.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commanding general was in California Jan. 18 to visit the site of a deadly mudslide. Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite toured areas of Santa Barbara hit hard by the disaster that left 18 people dead and three missing.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations Maj. Gen. Donald E. "Ed" Jackson visited Task Force Power Restoration at the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority Jan. 4 to get an update on the mission and to meet team members.

    Attorney Eliezer Aldarondo, USACE Puerto Rico Power Grid Program Director Jose Sanchez, Bayamon City Mayor Ramon L. Rivera Cruz, Task Force Power Restoration Commander Col. John Lloyd and Real Estate Chief Eric Sternberg meet Dec. 22 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to discuss use of city land space at the Bayamon sports complex for storage of critical materials used in the power restoration mission, including utility poles and other power grid supplies. The city is allowing the Corps use of its property and infrastructure to help expedite delivery of needed power grid supplies and equipment across the island.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Task Force Power Restoration team members met with Bayamon city leaders to discuss the potential use of city land space at the Bayamon sports complex in the greater San Juan metropolitan area Dec. 22.

    Corps leader updates California maritime industry

    Despite a nearly $2 billion budget to maintain the nation's inland waterways and harbors, it simply isn't enough for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to meet all the maritime industry’s infrastructure needs, Maj. Gen. Ed Jackson told attendees at the winter meeting of the California Marine Affairs and Navigation Conference held in Marina del Rey, California, Jan. 21.
