Beginning tomorrow, May 15, Burnsville Lake will be closed to boating until waterline repairs are made. Another posting will be made when the lake reopens.
The waterline supplying recreational facilities on the Bulltown end of Burnsville Lake extends from the dam to Bulltown and is routed under water in the lake. The line is weighted to securely hold it in the original river channel.
This line was installed by the Corps of Engineers in the early 1980’s, but it was transferred to Burnsville Public Utilities Board in 2005. Transferring ownership of the line to the local water company made it possible for residents on Curry Ridge and other areas near Bulltown to connect to public water provided by the Burnsville plant.
The line has recently failed, it is floating. The line would likely be further damaged by boats before it can be weighted and sunk. To allow the process to be completed, it has become necessary to prohibit use of boats on the lake until repairs are made.
We regret the inconvenience that this closure will cause boaters, but this repair is essential to continuing operation of recreational facilities on the Bulltown end of Burnsville Lake and to providing water to local residents in the vicinity of Bulltown.
