    USACE restores nature with nature

    The Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, recently implemented multiple projects to restore aquatic habitat along 2,412 linear feet of the Buffalo River’s hardened shoreline. These projects incorporated natural and nature-based design features that provided engineering functions through environmental means to create soft shoreline habitats.

    Last round of Sandy-damaged breakwater repair projects come to an end

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed the last of nine structural repair projects related to damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. Among the most recently completed projects were repairs to breakwaters located in Cleveland Harbor, Fairport Harbor, Lorain Harbor, and the Port Clinton East jetty.

  • Ohio & Erie Canal project complete, Project Team to host webinar

    The Ohio & Erie Canal project delivery team will host a webinar October 15th at 2pm EST, to celebrate the completion of the Ohio & Erie Canal Aquatic Nuisance Species Barrier Project, that has the primary benefit of protecting the highly valuable commercial and recreational fisheries in Ohio and the Great Lakes.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Cleveland Museum of Natural History execute agreement

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History executed a Project Partnership Agreement, August 10, 2020 to begin a project that will control flowering rush at Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve and Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve located on the southern shore of Lake Erie in the City of Mentor, OH.
  • USACE Buffalo District awards contract for seawall repair at LaSalle Park

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $6.11 million contract to Cold Spring Construction Company, from Akron, NY, on June 25 to repair over 1,300 feet of seawall, which has deteriorated over time due to Lake Erie ice and wave action, at the northern section of LaSalle Park, Buffalo, NY.
  • Primary Construction Work Completed at Harpersfield Dam

    All major work within the Grand River has been completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District of the Harpersfield Dam Sea Lamprey Barrier project located on the Grand River, in the town of Geneva, Ohio, with funding through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the non-federal partners.
