Army Corps partners with community for first line of coastal defense
Hurricane Isaias stormed up the east coast of the United States in early August, bringing heavy rain and winds up to 85 mph to the shores of flood-prone Port Monmouth, New Jersey. Immediately, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District reached out to the community to find out how they were doing and how its flood risk management project was working.

The power to save lives
After the water receded and wind settled after Superstorm Sandy, the New Jersey National Guard was out rescuing citizens. Whether they found that young child under the rubble or safely guided an elderly man out of his home, was a direct result of the work being performed by the task force at the Homeland Security Center of Excellence, Headquarters in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

New York, New Jersey Harbor deepening project provides environmental, economic benefits
During the past nine years, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey have been deepening 38 miles of federal navigation channels in the New York Harbor to a depth of 50 feet. Recently, the New York District awarded the final major construction contract, which will complete the deepening of the Arthur Kill Channel to 50 feet leading to the New York Container Terminal, Staten Island, New York, marking another milestone towards completing the overall 50 foot project.

USACE Philadelphia District supporting response to COVID-19 public health emergency
