Louisville District deploys debris team in support of Hurricane Helene recovery
Subject matter experts with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville district are deploying to areas in North Carolina and Florida that were impacted by Hurricane Helene. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has issued mission assignments to USACE to provide technical assistance in planning and coordinating the scope of potential debris missions for affected areas in North Carolina.

Col. Jason Kelly takes command of South Atlantic Division
On June 22nd, Col. Jason Kelly assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic Division. Col. Kelly assumed command from Maj. Gen. Diana Holland at a ceremony in Atlanta, Ga., where he will serve as the commander for a region that includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Puerto Rico.

Col. Kelly on Lake Okeechobee: balancing project purposes
One of the challenges we face at the Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is balancing all of the purposes of managing Lake Okeechobee given to us by Congress – flood control, water supply, navigation, recreation, and preservation of fish and wildlife resources. As we enter rainy season, we will keep focusing on balancing the purposes of lake water management and setting favorable conditions.

USACE updates dry-season approach for Lake Okeechobee
The water management team at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is now focused on the year ahead and the challenges that we face. Unlike last year, our focus this year will be on retaining water during the dry season.

Federal and State Partners Celebrate CEPP South Groundbreaking
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony today at the S-333 water control structure in western Miami-Dade County, bringing together members of the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Task Force to celebrate the first contract for the Central Everglades Planning Project, a project designed to improve flows south to Everglades National Park.

USACE to begin dredging Intracoastal Waterway near St. Lucie and Jupiter Inlets
The Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will begin dredging sections of the Intercoastal Waterway in the vicinity of St. Lucie Inlet and Jupiter Inlet, in Martin and Palm Beach Counties, on or about Oct. 16, 2020.

USACE to extend comment period for Draft Miami-Dade Back Bay Report
NORFOLK, Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the request of Miami-Dade County, its nonfederal sponsor, has extended the comment period for the Miami-Dade Back Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study, due to the unprecedented amount of attention and resources needed to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak in the area. Originally scheduled to close on July 20, the comment period will now close on August 19.
