Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program (NESP)
The Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program (NESP), seeks to provide a safe, reliable, cost effective and environment sustainable waterborne navigation system by implementing switchboats at five locks, constructing mooring cells and seven new 1,200 foot locks. NESP will restore the aquatic and terrestrial habitat to a more natural condition on more than 100,000 acres throughout the system through a wide variety of ecosystem projects.

Army Corps begins Post-Sandy restoration work on Rockaway Beach
Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District and New York City announced the beginning of sand replenishment efforts at Rockaway Beach. Crews are busy placing millions of cubic yards of sand as part of the Corps efforts to repair and restore the Rockaway coastline which was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

USACE to place more than 26 million cubic yards of sand to restore Sandy-damaged projects
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is in the process of placing more than 26 million cubic yards of sand along the coastline throughout the northeastern United States to repair and restore coastal storm risk reduction projects previously built by the Corps that were severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Going Green: Army Corps unveils new master plan for oyster recovery
Since the turn of the 20th century, oyster populations in the Chesapeake Bay have declined dramatically, largely due to disease, overharvesting, loss of habitat, and degraded water quality. With the State of Maryland placing increased emphasis on restoring the Chesapeake Bay, oyster restoration remains paramount in improving the Bay's vitality.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Corps of Engineers awards $4.1 million contract to restore part of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge

Corps opens public comment on Picayune Strand Restoration Project
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District opens public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) regarding construction of features of the Picayune Strand Restoration Project (PSRP). Comments are due June 12, 2020.
