    COVID 19: San Francisco District to open public boat ramp at Lake Sonoma May 16

    In accordance with a May 12, 2020 update to the Sonoma County Health Order, Lake Sonoma will start opening parts of the park for public use. The plan is to open the Public Boat Ramp and Marina for lake surface use on Saturday, May 16, 9 AM. The Visitor Center Parking lot will be open for vessel inspections only. At this time, all other recreation areas will remain closed.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Institute for Water Resources (IWR) released a report titled Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers: Water Security through Resilience.   • Huntsville Center plays key role in South Carolina remediation project

    Work to clean up former Camp Croft, a Formerly Used Defense Site, began following the April 1 contract between U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District, and a joint venture of Weston Solutions, Inc., of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, and Zapata Inc., of Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • Bellwood Manor House set for $3.28M renovation

    NORFOLK, Va. – The historic Bellwood Manor House at Defense Supply Center Richmond is getting a face-lift. Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $3.28 million contract to Facility Support Services for renovation of the house, which was built between 1790 and 1804 and is listed as a national and state landmark.

The COVID 19 pandemic continues to change operations almost daily, however, the district consolidated mailroom has continued its mission throughout this challenging period.
  • Ice Jams Trigger Operation of the Moose Creek Dam on Chena River

    For the first time since operation of the Moose Creek Dam began in 1981, ice jams in the Chena River were the reason that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District regulated stream flow to successfully prevent flooding of communities in the Fairbanks North Star Borough from April 24 to 30.
  • Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction under the COVID-19 Pandemic – UN HELP draft Principles (Input Requested by 15 May 2020)

    In April 2020, the UN High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) released the Draft Principles to Address Water-related Disasters under COVID-19 Pandemics, and is seeking suggestions and opinions. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Institute for Water Resources (IWR) supported this effort through editorial contributions and technical content. 
  • Center Hill Recreation Area opens today

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (May 8, 2020) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that Center Hill Recreation Area, located adjacent to Center Hill Dam, is once again opening for public use beginning Friday, May 8, 2020.  Center Hill Recreation Area has been closed since 2008 as a result of construction activities related to the Center Hill Dam Rehabilitation Project.
