  • Smith appointed Project Development Branch Chief

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District recently promoted Derrick Smith to the role of the Project Development Branch Chief and Assistant Deputy of the Programs and Project Management Division. Smith will also serve as Regional Project Manager for the Mississippi Valley Division’s Mississippi River Channel Improvement Program.

  • Dredging complete for Savannah Harbor Expansion Project

    SAVANNAH, Ga. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, announced the deepening portion of the Savannah Harbor, and the associated shipping channel, were completed March 8. This project is part of a 23-year effort to deepen the Savannah River from an authorized depth of 42 feet to 47 feet and extend it seven miles further into the Atlantic.

  • USACE seeks comments on the revised recommended plan for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a 45-day public comment period for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project Draft Revised Project Implementation Report and Environmental Impact Statement (PIR/EIS). Comments are due April 4, 2022.

  • Engineers Participate in Simulated Oil Spill Exercise

    J. STROM THURMOND DAM, Ga. – Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District participated in a tabletop exercise simulating a power plant oil spill at J. Strom Thurmond Dam on Feb. 10. The exercise presented a worst-case scenario of an oil spill with the intention of helping personnel become properly prepared and know the detailed procedures needed to handle such a situation.

  • USACE seeks comments on supplemental EA to incorporate L-67C backfill treatments into CEPP South Phase

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a 30-day public comment period for the supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for incorporation of backfill treatments constructed in the L-67C Canal associated with the Installation, Testing, and Monitoring of a Physical Model for the Water Conservation Area (WCA 3) Decompartmentalization and Sheetflow Enhancement Project, known as the “Decomp Physical Model” into the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) (South Phase). Comments are due Feb. 23, 2022.
