    The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announces the completion of the Lower Yellowstone fish bypass channel project near Glendive, Montana –water is flowing and the channel navigable.

  • Nebraska Tailwaters boat ramp closed until Monday, Dec. 6 for maintenance

    The U.S. Corps Army of Engineers, Omaha District announced that the boat ramp at the Nebraska Tailwaters located at the Gavins Point Dam, Nebraska, will be closed through Dec. 6, due to continued maintenance activities.
  • Crest Road at Gavins Point Dam closed Wednesday, Dec. 1 for maintenance

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District announced that Crest Road at Gavins Point Dam, South Dakota will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. for maintenance. Visitors are asked to take alternate routes during the closure.
  • USACE completes new high-altitude research laboratory on Pikes Peak

    The Army’s new high-altitude research laboratory at the top of Pikes Peak in Cascade, Colorado, was officially completed on July 1, and is the highest facility of its kind in North America. Built by members from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District’s Ft. Carson Resident Office team for the U.S. Army Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, this new lab will greatly enhance research to optimize Soldiers’ health and strengthen today’s warfighter.
  • Air Force Academy, USACE break ground on new cyber facility

    The Stillman parade field on the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was the site of a groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 6 for the new Madera Cyber Innovation Center. U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent, U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark hosted the afternoon event before a group of Servicemembers, distinguished guests and civilians.
  • Maintenance, construction scheduled at Salt Creek Dams near Lincoln

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District will be performing maintenance and construction activities Aug. 23 to Nov. 20, at the downstream conduit outlet plunge pools at the following Salt Creek Dam sites: 8 (Wagon Train), 9 (Stagecoach), 10 (Yankee Hill), 12 (Conestoga) and 13 (Twin Lakes); additionally, some downstream maintenance will occur at site 4 (Blue Stem).
  • Vegetation control to begin on Missouri River sandbars between Garrison Dam and Huff, ND

    During August and September, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct vegetation management activities on sandbars in the Missouri River between Garrison Dam and Huff, N.D. The Bismarck-Mandan river reach (river miles 1325 to 1310) will not be sprayed. This work is being done to keep the sandbars free of vegetation and usable by the threatened piping plover for nesting.

    During September, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct vegetation management activities on sandbars in the Missouri River between Yankton and Vermillion, South Dakota, the upper portion of Lewis and Clark Lake near Springfield South Dakota, and Niobrara, Nebraska, and as far upstream as Pickstown, South Dakota This work is being done to keep the sandbars free of vegetation and usable by the threatened piping plover for nesting as well to control invasive common reed that has become prevalent in the lake area.
  • Acting Assistant Secretary of Army for Civil Works Visits Omaha District

    Mr. Jaime A. Pinkham, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, visited the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District from July 7 to 9 to learn more about the District’s programs and operations.
