  • Somerville Lake Embankment Road to close temporarily

    Officials with the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that the embankment road located between Lake Somerville Marina and Campground and Welch Park will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023.
  • Maintenance to close temporarily Canyon Lake Dam service road  

    Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at Canyon Lake will temporarily close the dam service road for embankment maintenance April 24 through 27. The Overlook Park Road will be open for public enjoyment, but the dam service road is expected to be closed for four days to allow a contractor to stage equipment and perform maintenance.
  • USACE and Harlan County Lake conduct community emergency preparedness exercise

    A tabletop exercise was conducted in Superior, Nebraska, on April 12, 2023, by local emergency management agencies for Harlan County Lake in conjunction with the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The purpose of the exercise was to showcase the joint emergency preparedness between local communities around Harlan County Dam and USACE. In attendance at the tabletop exercise were representatives from the City of Superior, Nebraska, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Superior Volunteer Rescue Squad, Jewell County Emergency Management, Superior Fire Department, the National Weather Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Nuckolls County Emergency Management and the Jewell County Sheriff’s Office.
  • USACE needs more engineers for its Dam Safety Production Center

    Dams are often synonymous with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Responsible for more than 740 dams across the nation, USACE and its Dam Safety Program is responsible ensuring these structures provide many significant benefits to the nation while also reducing risks to people, property, and the environment. Central to this effort in the Southwestern Division are the engineers working for the Dam Safety Production Center.

  • USACE and Harry S Truman Dam community conduct emergency preparedness exercise

    A tabletop exercise was conducted at Harry S Truman Dam on Feb. 16, 2023 by the local emergency management agencies in conjunction with the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The purpose of the exercise was to showcase the joint emergency preparedness between local communities around Harry S Truman Dam and USACE. The tabletop exercise focused on the communication and coordination efforts during operational releases or an extreme, rare flood event. During the exercise, USACE emphasized that it regularly assesses the conditions and risks associated with Harry S Truman Dam, along with its other civil works projects. The most recent assessment conducted in 2022, found Harry S Truman Dam to be structurally sound, and the risk associated with a potential breach of the dam is low.
