  • Update on levee rehabilitation in the Kansas City District

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to update our partners and the public on progress made in our levee rehabilitation program. There are 66 levee systems on target for repairs, some with breeches, some with other surface damage such as grass kill or scour holes. The Corps currently has 24 contracts awarded with another 16 currently advertised for bids or pending award. Contractors have begun moving dirt on 8 of the 24 awarded contracts – this number is increasing daily.

  • Corps of Engineers awards a $500k contract for the Next NGA West Integrated Project Office’s janitorial services

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a multiyear contract to a St. Louis, Missouri company for a total of $491,279.81 to provide the Next NGA West Integrated Project Office’s Janitorial Services. Dala Worldwide Services, a Minority Women-Owned Small Business, will provide janitorial services for the on-site office space throughout the construction of the Next NGA West.

  • Corps approves temporary modifications to lake water management plans

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Due to ongoing challenging conditions with wet soils and higher than normal river levels across the Missouri River Basin, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is canceling plans to increase water levels in reservoirs for the spring as stated in the annual water level management plans.    This temporary modification will better position the Kansas City District's reservoirs to receive spring runoff, and manage for locally heavy rainfall following record lake levels across the district last year. Nine of 18 district reservoirs reached record pools in 2019. Flood control operations at Kansas City District Reservoirs and Bureau of Reclamation lakes prevented $131 million in damages in Kansas and $2.27 billion in damages in Missouri during the 2019 flood event. Life safety and flood control are primary factors in reservoir operations throughout the Missouri River Basin.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake celebrates 30th managed deer hunt

    Nearly 150 people filled a maintenance facility with excitement at Smithville Lake around 4 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019. They were all there for one reason, to get out into the wild and seek a big buck this weekend. For the 30th year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake hosted what’s known as the world’s largest managed deer hunt for mobility-impaired hunters. During this two-day event, 60 hunting blinds are set up across 3,800 acres of prime ground, not available for public hunting. Along with a volunteer, these hunters seek out the best spot near daybreak and wait out their target.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,850 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day, November 11.

    KC Water hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in the Swope Park Industrial Area Friday, November 1, 2019. This summer, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded an $18M contract for construction of levees, floodwalls, and interior drainage system to Medvolt Construction Services with the goal to complete the project by 2023.

  • Kansas City District hosts fall training for federal contracting professionals

    The Kansas City District Contracting Division hosted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fall Training sessions October 22 - 24 at the Richard Bolling Federal Building in downtown Kansas City, Mo.
