    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced alternative/emergency permitting procedures in response to earthquake activity affecting areas within the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
  • USACE coordina con las agencias de Puerto Rico para preservar los artefactos encontrados en el yacimiento arqueológico de Dorado

    El Cuerpo de Ingenieros del Ejército de los Estados Unidos, (USACE por sus siglas en inglés), contrató a la firma Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc (SEARCH) para realizar estudios arqueológicos, en un área identificada dentro de los límites de construcción del proyecto de control in Dorado, Puerto Rico. La metodología y procedimientos propuestos por la firma, para todas las actividades, fue aprobada por el USACE y consultada con la Oficina de Preservación Histórica de Puerto Rico (SHPO) según requerido por la Sección 106 de la Ley Nacional de Preservación Histórica. Los materiales arqueológicos recuperados en las excavaciones del Rio de La Plata incluyen cerámica, líticos y osamentas.

    El Distrito de Jacksonville del Cuerpo de Ingenieros del Ejército de EE. UU., (USACE por sus siglas en inglés), otorgó un contrato el 27 de septiembre a Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Co., LLC para el Proyecto de Control de Inundaciones de Río Puerto Nuevo en San Juan, Puerto Rico. El contrato de dragado de mantenimiento de $ 8.75 millones está financiado por la Ley de Presupuesto Bipartidista de 2018, que proporciona fondos y autoridad para que USACE aborde los impactos causados por los desastres naturales.
  • Corps awards dredging contract for Rio Puerto Nuevo Flood Control Project in San Juan, Puerto Rico

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District awarded a contract Sept. 27 to Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Co., LLC for the Rio Puerto Nuevo Flood Control Project in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The $8.75 million maintenance dredging contract is funded by the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, which provides funding and authority for USACE to address impacts caused by natural disasters.
  • Corps awards contract for Salud Creek Streambank Protection Project at San Germán, Puerto Rico

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District awarded a contract Sept. 19 to the Advantix Engineering Corporation for the Salud Creek Streambank Protection Project at San Germán, Puerto Rico. The $1,018,065.73 construction contract is the first Continuing Authorities Program contract funded by the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018.
  • Corps of Engineers extends public comment period for Rio Guayanilla draft Integrated Feasibility Report, Environmental Assessment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Chicago District extended the public comment period for the draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment for the Río Guayanilla Flood Risk Management Study at the Municipality of Guayanilla, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. USACE is now accepting comments through Oct. 4, 2019. The draft feasibility report was completed in collaboration with our local sponsor, the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources; primary stakeholder, the municipality of Guayanilla; and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The study area is the alluvial valley in which the municipality resides, with principal benefits of the plan for Guayanilla and the outlying neighborhoods of El Faro, Playa, and Beldum.

  • Munitions cleanup on Culebra advances, increasing safety for public recreational use

    Culebra Island, located 17 miles east of Puerto Rico’s main island, is known for its white, soft sands, which makes it a favorite vacationing spot for tourists seeking to snorkel and find treasures in its waters. Unfortunately, some of those treasures may actually be unexploded ordnance due to the island’s history. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers executes the FUDS program on behalf of the U.S. Army and Department of Defense. Culebra Island is part of the FUDS inventory and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is responsible for the day to day management and clean-up of munitions on the portions of the island where authorized.
