    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Louisville District will receive $5.3 million in federal funding to advance the Louisville Metro Flood Protection System Reconstruction Project. The funds, which were included as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Work Plan for the Army Civil Works program, will be used to initiate the construction phase of the project.

  • USACE Jacksonville District issues scoping letter for the Central Everglades Planning Project North Phase

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, is preparing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment to support design refinements being considered in the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) North Phase Validation Study. The purpose of the CEPP North Phase Validation Study is to confirm project components, construction sequencing, and project dependencies as described in the 2014 CEPP Final Project Implementation Report and Environmental Impact Statement (PIR/EIS) and Chief's Report. In addition, the Validation Study will also validate that the proposed design refinements are necessary for the CEPP North project components to function as originally intended and determine if the refinements require additional NEPA.     As the Memphis District joins in celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the USACE Civil Works Program, we’re reflecting on our contribution to the program.  The Memphis District as it exists today, is descended from several organizational units, extending over 142 years. The Mississippi River Commission (MRC) established the Little Rock River and Harbor Office in February 1881. That office assumed charge of improvements on the Arkansas, White and St. Francis rivers and tributaries. Most of this work involved removing snags and debris from channels. Some of these waterways would eventually be assigned to the Memphis District.

Dredging of harbors like Cleveland’s ensures accessible depths for large vessels, the continued flow of commodities across the Great Lakes, and the economic viability of United States waterways.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District collaborated with the City of Newport Beach, Orange County Public Works and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to remove debris from several unauthorized encampments April 19 in the Santa Ana River Marsh at Newport Beach. The area is home to endangered habitat.
