  • Rep. Jason Smith, Mississippi River Commission celebrate groundbreaking of new Caruthersville Floodwall

    The Memphis District held a groundbreaking ceremony in Caruthersville, Missouri, April 3, 2022, to celebrate a federally funded project to replace the Caruthersville Mississippi River floodwall. The new floodwall will enhance the safety of more than 135,000 residents, $6.28 billion of property, and $7.5 billion of agriculture.

  • Groundbreaking, ribbon-cutting, to celebrate project start, completion

    The Memphis District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 17, 2021, to celebrate two critical construction projects in Tennessee and Kentucky. District Commander Col. Zachary Miller, district leadership, and the project delivery team members met with project partners in Ridgely, Tennessee, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The celebratory event was held to acknowledge the completion of an essential levee restoration and berm construction project. Immediately following the ceremony, district leadership and project team members traveled to the event site and met with the project partner in Hickman, Kentucky, for a groundbreaking.

  • VA, USACE break ground on Louisville VA Medical Center

    History was made on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2021, as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, and the Department of Veterans Affairs broke ground on the much-anticipated Louisville VA Medical Center. The new 104 bed, full-service hospital located on Brownsboro Road in Louisville, Kentucky, will provide world-class healthcare for more than 45,000 Veterans in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

  • Corps of Engineers helps break ground on new Spinal Cord Injury/Community Living Center

    Representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Paralyzed Veterans of America and contractors gathered June 16 at the San Diego Veterans Affairs Medical Center campus to break ground on the new Spinal Cord Injury/Community Living Center.

  • ERDC’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory breaks ground for climatic chamber building

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), along with U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) New England District broke ground together for CRREL’s new Climatic Chamber Building Oct. 16 at the Hanover, New Hampshire, campus. The Climatic Chamber Building will serve as a Material Evaluation Facility. The facility will provide a critical means to examine and test extreme cold-weather environments to develop and validate Army field materiel, which is required for Soldier and unit readiness.

  • Corps of Engineers and Fish and Wildlife Service break ground on Twin Cities environmental restoration project

    ST. PAUL, Minn. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Midwest Region will celebrate the start of an environmental restoration project for the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge with a ‘virtual’ groundbreaking ceremony Friday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m.

  • Virtual event will celebrate FishPass project kick off

    FishPass project construction in Traverse City, Michigan, will kick off with a virtual groundbreaking ceremony October 24. This final phase of the Boardman River Ecosystem Restoration Project is primarily funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and led by the Great Lakes Commission in partnership with the City of Traverse City, Fisheries and Oceans of Canada, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa/Chippewa Indians, Great Lakes Fishery Commission, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Geological Survey. “The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has provided our agencies continued opportunities to implement sustainable projects throughout the Great Lakes Region,” said Carl Platz, Great Lakes Program Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “The knowledge we gain from FishPass will not only be utilized throughout the Great Lakes, but it will likely be applied across the nation as well."

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) announced July 9, 2020, that the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) was awarded an Unspecified Minor Military Construction Authority contract to build a Climatic Chamber Facility on the Hanover, New Hampshire, campus.

  • Officials to break ground on DeSoto, Tunica County seepage remediation projects

    WHAT: Groundbreaking ceremony for the Commerce, Mississippi, Seepage Remediation Project and Clack/Norfolk, Mississippi, Seepage Remediation Project. WHO: Desoto County and Tunica County Partners, Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board, Mississippi River Commission, and Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.   • St. Francis River Basin Partners, Mississippi River Commission, and Corps of Engineers to break ground on seepage remediation projects

    Groundbreaking ceremony for construction of multiple seepage remediation projects to include Below Senath, Missouri; Big Island, Arkansas; and Below Piggott/Below Hwy 90, Arkansas. The Below Senath Seepage Remediation project, in Dunklin County, Missouri, will reduce risk from the effects of under-seepage by performing drainage ditch work to change the flow of water into a more desirable pattern for the stability of the levee. Work began in May 2020, and the tentative completion date is October 2020. The local partner for the project is Levee District No. 4 of Dunklin County, Missouri, and the prime contractor is C&M Contractors.
