  • The Perfect Throw

    We often think about sports icons when we think of the “the perfect throw.” We think of a quarterback in the Super Bowl that threads the needle for the final touchdown to win the game, or the pitcher that slings the final strike to close out a perfect game. Undoubtedly, these are incredible moments. These moments take years of practice and sweat equity from the athletes before they’re in a position to make “the perfect throw.” However, there are moments in life where the perfect throw doesn’t happen on the field. It happens in the split seconds between life and death. This is that story… It was a smoldering hot 4th of July day at Greers Ferry Lake in central Arkansas. Every recreation area around the lake was packed with visitors looking for a place to cool off.
  • MKARNS NAVIGATION NOTICE - SWL 23-42

    The Joe Hardin Lock (No. 3) NM 50.2 closure detail that was previously noted in Nav Notice SWL 23-28 has been revised. The lock will now be closed to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. on September 11, 2023, until 7 p.m. on September 15, 2023. This is to allow workers to upgrade the lock interlock system which is an integral safety function of the Lock.

    James W. Trimble Lock (No. 13) NM 292.8 will be closed to traffic beginning at 6 a.m. on August 8, 2023, until 6 p.m. on August 9, 2023. This is to allow workers to make repairs to the downstream land wall tainter valve piping.

    Due to increased river elevations, the crest gate dam at Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5) is lowered and the navigation pass is open. When the Montgomery Point Lock and Dam tailwater elevation drops below 115 ft., the navigation pass will be closed.

  • USACE announces seasonal closure of the Dewey Short Visitor Center at Table Rock Lake

    The Dewey Short Visitor Center will close for the season Dec.1 and will reopen March 1, 2023. The surrounding grounds, picnic facility and the 2.2- mile Lakeshore Trail to State Park Marina will remain open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • USACE awards contract to modernize Norfork Dam hydropower units

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District awards Voith Hydro a nearly $50 million contract to modernize the hydropower units at Norfork Dam in Baxter County, Ark.
  • USACE to temporarily close boat ramp at Devils Fork Park

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is temporarily closing the boat ramp at Devils Fork Park on Nov. 8 and 9 so construction crews can re-surface the lower parking lot near the boat ramp. USACE asks boaters to use the corrugated boat ramps at nearby parks until the work is complete. 
  • USACE waives day use fees at recreation areas in observance of Veterans Day

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,850 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day, Nov.11.
