    WESTON, FLA – U.S. Army Engineer Divers assigned to the 74th Engineer Dive Detachment (EDD) conducted a series of underwater inspections and structural integrity checks in the Everglades while performing training exercises at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, locks, dams and spillway gates in the Everglades in Weston, Fla.

  • Jacksonville District reinforces hurricane readiness through Hurricane preparedness

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida is famous for its beautiful beaches, sunny weather, and vibrant ecosystems. However, living in the Sunshine State also means facing the annual threat of ferocious hurricanes. Hurricane season in Florida runs from June 1 through November 30, bringing peak storm risks between mid-August and late October. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District recently conducted a simulated Hurricane tabletop exercise alongside state partners to prepare for the Atlantic hurricane season.

  • Fort Buchanan breaks ground on AST barracks

    Fort Buchanan marked a major milestone March 23, 2026, with the groundbreaking of its new Advanced Skills Training (AST) Barracks, a $22.27 million military construction project that will expand the installation’s capacity to support short‑term institutional training for Soldiers across Puerto Rico. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Caribbean District is overseeing the project.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers publishes Finding of No Significant Impact for the Lake Istokpoga Temporary Deviation

    (Mar. 13, 2026) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District (Corps) has prepared a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the expedited planned, temporary deviation from the 2016 Lake Istokpoga Regulation Schedule. The proposed planned, temporary deviation is being pursued to allow continued water supply releases from Lake Istokpoga when the lake stages drop below the existing Zone B, due to drought conditions observed this dry season, to meet downstream water supply needs within the Indian Prairie Basin, including deliveries to the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

  • SAD’s future leaders gather in Puerto Rico 

    Emerging leaders from across the South Atlantic Division traveled to Puerto Rico in early March 2026 as part of the South Atlantic Division’s Regional Leadership Development Program (SAD RLDP), spending a week immersed in the Caribbean District’s mission and operating environment. The cohort explored some of the district’s most complex engineering, environmental, and military construction projects while learning directly from district leaders, technical experts, and senior division leadership. The visit offered a rare, hands‑on look at how USACE delivers critical infrastructure and resilience projects in a uniquely challenging island setting.

  • With FOC reached, Caribbean District sets strategic course

    After almost a century of providing engineering excellence in the Caribbean, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers now has a permanent presence in the area. The Caribbean District, formed in 2024, officially reached Full Operational Capability (FOC) recently, solidifying its role as the 43rd district within USACE and the first permanent district focused on civil works in the Caribbean since 1950. This milestone marks the culmination of a multi-year transformation from Task Force Virgin Islands Puerto Rico (TF VIPR) into a fully functioning district, headquartered in San Juan.
