  • Despite early runoff, upper basin runoff forecast below average; Gavins Point releases to increase for navigation flow support

    A warm February led to increased snowmelt and runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa. February runoff was 1.8 million acre-feet, 161% of average with above average runoff in every reach except Sioux City, which was near average. However, the updated 2024 calendar year runoff forecast for the basin continues to be below average.   

  • The Dewey Short Visitor Center opens for 2024 recreation season

    With Spring in the air, the Dewey Short Visitor Center has opened for the 2024 recreation season.   • Stockton Lake officials to temporarily limit access to Hawker Point campground and boat ramp

    Officials will be closing the boat ramp and encouraging the public to limit access at the Hawker Point campground from March 18 to March 29, 2024. The boat ramp will be closed while lake staff and the Missouri Department of Conservation complete their annual fish habitat project. The campground will remain open, but Stockton Lake staff are encouraging the public to reduce road traffic at the campground while the project is ongoing.

  • Portion of Neal Smith Trail to close for resurfacing at Saylorville Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces a portion of the Neal Smith Trail at Saylorville Lake will temporarily close for resurfacing starting March 4th.

It had been incorrectly stated as 2023.** The updated 2024 calendar year runoff forecast for the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa, continues to be below average. January runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City was 0.4 million acre-feet, 56% of average. Runoff was well-below-average due to much-below-normal temperatures over the whole Missouri River Basin and below-normal precipitation over most of the upper basin.
