    PORTLAND, Ore. – Coordinated operations of storage reservoirs across the Columbia Basin reduced water levels by nine feet near Portland and Vancouver in mid-June preventing additional flood damage attributable to a powerful atmospheric river that impacted most of the four-state region, and beyond.

  • Pittsburgh District joins Duquesne University to form a stunning partnership

    Every organization says they are a learning organization, but the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has taken its quest for innovation to a stunning level. During the 2021 recreation season, experts from the Pittsburgh District began a partnership with Duquesne University’s biology department. The goal was to test water quality within Crooked Creek Lake’s watershed called an “electrofishing survey,” which the corps had not used before.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, received $61.45 million to complete the Maple Diversion Channel and levees north of city of Minot, North Dakota’s City Hall in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Plan released today.
  • Green River Lake partners with emergency responders

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is one of the nation’s leading providers of outdoor recreation. The Louisville District alone had over 15 million visitors to their 17 lakes last year. While the lakes provide many great recreational opportunities, they are also often used in partnership with federal, state and local agencies to provide educational resources or to serve as training grounds for emergency responders. Each year the Campbellsville Fire Department works closely with district personnel to conduct lifesaving, swiftwater training in the tailwater area at Green River Lake in Campbellsville, Kentucky. 
  • USACE Omaha District completes new firing range at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District completed a new Indoor firing range at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota this month. This $24.5 million project included demolition of the existing outdoor firing range, and new construction of a state-of-the-art combat arms training and maintenance facility with over three dozen indoor firing lanes. This new facility helps Minot’s airmen and women train in safer conditions and meet requirements to secure the Nation.
