    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 6, 2018) — The public is reminded of the policies of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority that govern the operation and use of recreational unmanned aerial systems (UAS or drones) . The Corps of Engineers operates and maintains navigation locks at TVA dams where the TVA drone policy applies.
  • Heavy concrete shell placement at Kentucky Lock not taken lightly

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 9, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District successfully placed the first 1.3 million pound concrete shell on the riverbed Aug. 6 that will be part of the downstream cofferdam and the permanent lock wall for the Kentucky Lock Addition Project.
  • NR 18-023: Kentucky Lock’s first lift-in shell to be placed

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 1, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District plans to set its first 1.3-million-pound concrete shell Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 that will form a part of the downstream cofferdam for the new lock under construction at Kentucky Dam, a Tennessee Valley Authority project. Lifting and setting this massive concrete shell represents a critical milestone towards completion of the new 1,200-foot-long navigation lock and involves techniques never previously attempted.

(May 10, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority invite the public for a free tour of Chickamauga Lock at Tennessee River mile 471 in Chattanooga, Tenn., Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018. Four groups of 25 will be able to tour the facility at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required for all tour guests (including minors).

Four groups of 25 will be able to tour the facility at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Central Time. Pre-registration is required for all tour guests (including minors).

(May 9, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority invite the public for a free tour of Wilson Lock at Tennessee River mile 259.4 in Florence, Ala., Saturday, June 16, 2018. Four groups of 25 will be able to tour the facility at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required for all tour guests (including minors). The deadline to register is June 8, 2018.

  • Coast Guard admiral tours Chickamauga Lock

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 4, 2018) – The U.S. Coast Guard’s incoming assistant commandant toured Chickamauga Lock today to see where physical expansion of concrete causes structural deficiencies, and observe how ongoing excavation of the riverbed is making way for construction of a new navigation lock to improve access to the upper reaches of the Tennessee River Basin.

(April 10, 2018) – Congressmen Chuck Fleischmann, Tennessee 3rd District, and Scott DesJarlais, Tennessee 4th District met with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Tennessee Valley Authority representatives, toured the existing and new lock project and addressed the media about funding and progress Monday morning April 9, 2018.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 3, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority invite the media to cover a congressional visit to Chickamauga Lock 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, U.S. Representative for Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District, and Congressman Scott DesJarlais, U.S. Representative for Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District, are visiting to check on the progress of repairs being completed by the Corps of Engineers Regional Light Fleet to the upper miter gate anchorage of the existing lock, and for an update of the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project. Subject matter experts will be available to discuss the ongoing maintenance at the lock and address other questions about the on-site work.
