  • Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project builds on Joint Risk Register

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 26, 2019) – As Corps of Engineers officials and their contract partner prepare to place concrete for a new navigation lock at Chickamauga Dam on the Tennessee River, they are actively working together to reduce safety risk as well as construction risks that could affect contract costs and schedule, and identify opportunities for improvement as part of a headquarters pilot program called the “Joint Risk Register.”

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 18, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority invite the public for a free tour of Watts Bar Lock at Tennessee River mile 529.9 in Decatur, Tenn., Saturday, June 22, 2019.

  • NR 19-023: Public invited for Wilson Lock tour on Tennessee River

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 16, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority invite the public for a free tour of Wilson Lock at Tennessee River mile 259.4 in Florence, Ala., Saturday, June 8, 2019. Four groups of 25 will be able to tour the facility at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Central Time. Pre-registration is required for all tour guests (including minors). The deadline to register is May 29, 2019. Personal information collected during sign-up is used for security background checks.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2018) – Judi Fleeman, program analyst at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Tennessee River Navigation Area’s East Tennessee Section at Fort Loudoun Lock in Lenoir City, Tenn., is the employee of the month for July 2018.

  • Heavy concrete shell placement at Kentucky Lock not taken lightly

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 9, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District successfully placed the first 1.3 million pound concrete shell on the riverbed Aug. 6 that will be part of the downstream cofferdam and the permanent lock wall for the Kentucky Lock Addition Project.

  • NR 18-023: Kentucky Lock’s first lift-in shell to be placed

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 1, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District plans to set its first 1.3-million-pound concrete shell Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 that will form a part of the downstream cofferdam for the new lock under construction at Kentucky Dam, a Tennessee Valley Authority project. Lifting and setting this massive concrete shell represents a critical milestone towards completion of the new 1,200-foot-long navigation lock and involves techniques never previously attempted.
