Hardened aircraft shelters constructed at Kunsan

Col. Bluestone Dam Final Anchor Ribbon Cutting

A ceremony to celebrate the installation of the final anchors in the Bluestone Dam on the New River at Hinton, W.Va., took place Dec. 7, 2018. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its Phase 4 contractor are finalizing the installation of 278 high strength steel strand anchors in the spillway and non-overflow monoliths. Nearly 500 total anchors have been installed to date, which help increase the dam’s flood storage capacity. This represents a significant investment to an important piece of West Virginia infrastructure which helps reduce flood hazards to the entire New and Kanawha River valleys, all the way through Charleston and to the Point Pleasant and beyond on the Ohio River. To date, Bluestone Dam has helped reduced flood damages in excess of $5 billion

Harlan County Lake gains improved tainter gates for safety of dam

REPUBLICAN CITY, Neb. – The Kansas City District and the Harlan County Lake team hosted a ribbon cutting event at the recently repaired Harlan County Dam May 11, 2018. The many changes needed to the tainter gates, sluicegates, and irrigation lines required a multi-disciplined project delivery team to focus on execution, quality, and schedule. This allowed for efficient accomplishment of the work on this complex dam project. The Harlan County Dam was the District’s top dam safety concern and received immediate and sustained attention to reduce the risk early and find the right repairs to greatly enhance the long-term safety of the dam.

Hill AFB opens 35,000 square-foot flight line fire station

Firefighters here have a new home – a 35,000 square foot facility that not only improves their response times, but also their quality of life. The building’s grand opening Thursday – attended by Air Force leadership, federal, state and local politicians – was marked by a traditional ceremony, where instead of a ribbon being cut, a fire hose was uncoupled and a “return home” code rang from a bell.

McConnell holds ribbon cutting for $267 million in KC-46A facilities

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. — McConnell held a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. to signify completing the preparation for the arrival of the KC-46A Pegasus. After three years, 16 projects, more than 23 million pounds of steel and $267 million, McConnell stands ready to accept the KC-46A and pave the way for the future of air refueling. The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, oversaw the construction and contracting.
