  • St. Francis Levee District awarded Outstanding Maintenance Award

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations, Maj. Gen. William (Butch) Graham and the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Assistant Secretary of Army (Civil Works), Vance Stewart, stopped in West Memphis, Arkansas, where they were briefed by our St. Francis Levee District of Arkansas Partner Rob Rash, Memphis District Project Manager Jason Dickard, and Geotechnical Branch Chief Cory Williams on the Mississippi River Levee system.
  • R.D. Bailey Winter Boat Ramp Closed Temporarily

    The winter boat launch ramp at R.D. Bailey Lake in Justice, WV, is temporarily closed to the public. Recent heavy rainfall caused the second highest pool of record (1111.50 msl) and washed a significant amount of drift and debris into the lake, which accumulated at the base of the dam. The R.D. Bailey Dam holds back water during high water events to help reduce flooding downstream, but that also means crews must deal with the drift and debris that follows.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Beaver Lake Project Office will be opening some of its most popular parks for the season on April 1.

  • Army Corps Improvements at U.S. Army Installation Focus on Soldier’s Safety

    The New York District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is making $41 million in improvements at Picatinny Arsenal in northern New Jersey ─ a U.S. Army installation providing products and services to all branches of the U.S. Military.
  • 2021 Channel Improvement Team Meeting a success

    In a virtual get-together held mid-February, members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering and Construction Department, operations leaders from the Memphis, Vicksburg, and New Orleans Districts, project managers, regional team members, environmental partners, and other representatives from the St. Louis District, all came together for their annual Mississippi River Channel Improvement meeting to discuss environmental projects and other current channel improvement issues.
  • Expect Higher Lake Elevation for Mark Twain Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is expecting higher lake elevations throughout the month of March. Currently, the Mark Twain Lake water elevation is at 609.79, and is expected to crest at 612.40 on March 29, 2021.  This projection does include the forecasted precipitation and the generation schedule. We ask that you stay aware while on the lake, avoid areas you may see with large amounts of debris, and wear a life jacket while on the water.
  • Mississippi River Commission schedules high-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, April 12-16, 2021. Four public meetings have been scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river. Commission members will meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues.
  • Corps considers plan to reduce Detroit Reservoir maximum pool elevation

    Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers considers a plan to reduce Detroit Reservoir’s maximum pool elevation by five feet beginning this summer to reduce the likelihood of overstressing the spillway gates during a large earthquake, which might impact boat ramp access in some years.
