• U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to hold second virtual public meeting for the University City Branch, River Des Peres General Reevaluation Report (GRR), a Flood Risk Management Study

    Due to technical issues with the July 26 virtual public meeting, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, is hosting a second virtual public meeting on August 17 to present information and gather feedback from the public on the University City Branch, River Des Peres, Missouri GRR with integrated Environment Assessment, a Flood Risk Management study. The meeting will be hosted virtually using the WebEx platform, and it will include an overview of the study process including preliminary findings and the several alternatives currently under consideration to reduce flood risk to business owners and residents such as nonstructural measures (i.e. wet/dry floodproofing or elevation of structures), the creation of detention basins, and flood risk awareness and outreach efforts.

  • MacAllister honored for vital research in Czech Republic

    Dr. Irene MacAllister, a research chemist with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), has been awarded the Czech Republic’s University of Defence Medal honoring her “for the immense contribution she has made to the research effort in protection against high-risk biological agents.” She received the award upon recent completion of her assignment with the U.S. Army Engineer and Scientist Exchange Program (ESEP) to the Czech Republic.
  • Army Corps awards contract for renourishment of Ocean City beach

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, awarded a $15.7 million contract on August 2, 2021, for berm reconstruction in Ocean City, to Weeks Marine Inc., based in Cranford, New Jersey.
  • Temporary lane restrictions at East Totten Trail boat ramp on Lake Audubon, North Dakota

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District announced concrete repairs will be performed on the boat ramp at the East Totten Trail Recreation Area on the northwest side of Lake Audubon in North Dakota beginning August 5 through mid- October. The boat ramp and courtesy dock will remain open with some temporary lane restrictions in the coming weeks.
  • Venue change: Virtual public meeting set for Lansing, Calumet City levees

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Chicago District has released for public comment the draft National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document on the potential impacts associated with improvements to the Lansing levee and Calumet City levees in Cook County, Illinois. Virtual public meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, for City of Calumet City residents and on Monday, Aug.16, 2021, for Village of Lansing residents. Public comments will be accepted (written and verbal) at both meetings.   • District working to combat COVID spike

    Galveston District Commander Col. Tim Vail held a town hall August 2 with the entire workforce, to discuss new COVID-19 mitigations in light of the newest COVID-19 strain -- the Delta variant. Vail recommended the District workforce continue following all current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Department of Defense (DoD) installation requirements on COVID-19 prevention.

  • Drought, lack of measurable rain drains Willamette Valley reservoirs - Corps hosts info session

    Nearly 50 days without measurable rain, combined with hot, dry conditions, has made reservoir levels in the Willamette Valley the lowest in six years. Additionally, forecasts are not predicting enough precipitation to alleviate the ongoing drought in the Pacific Northwest. To help the public understand the conditions, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District will host an info session Thursday, Aug. 5th from 12-1 p.m. to update the public about lake levels and recreation opportunities in its 13 Willamette Valley reservoirs.
