  • Officials seek public comments on Jones Levee Feasibility Study, Environmental Assessment

    Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Pierce County are seeking public comments on the draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment (IFR/EA) for the Jones Levee Flood Control Feasibility Study. The 30-day public comment period was from Oct. 12 to Nov. 11 but has been extended to Nov. 26, 2021, because Appendices A.7, A.8, and A.9 were missing in the original posting. The missing appendices are now available for public review and comment.   • Corps of Engineers announces temporary road closures across Smithville Dam

    SMITHVILLE, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake are making repairs to an aging culvert under Litton Way, which will result in temporary road closures for safety. Improvements to the culvert under the roadway will provide extended longevity for travelers. The contractor, HK Solutions Group, will close a section of Litton Way beginning 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2021. This road closure is estimated to last through Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the repairs and potential weather delays.  During this time, vehicles can access Smithsfork Drive from DD Highway and Litton Way. Please plan for detours during this time.
  • Abiquiu Lake boat ramp to close Oct. 12 for renovation work

    Beginning the morning of Oct. 12, 2021, the public boat ramp at Abiquiu Lake will be closed for renovations. This closure is expected to last approximately one month, with an anticipated end date of Nov. 10, 2021.

    In a warzone, soldiers are trained to watch out for dangerous, life-threatening obstacles. Maybe the enemy scattered landmines around the terrain. Maybe there is a sharpshooter 300 yards away awaiting your approach. Tethered to rooftops in the hot Louisiana sun for the better part of their day, Corps of Engineers Blue Roof contractors assisting with Hurricane Ida disaster response know hidden dangers, too. Their sharpshooter is an unforgiving rusty nail piercing their boot bottom; their landmine is a weak section of roofing with hidden rot under the shingles. Being safe on the ledge of a two-story drop requires vigilance.
