• Carlyle Lake Main Dam Bridge Deck Closure

    CARLYLE LAKE – On Friday, July 15, 2016, the Carlyle Lake Main Dam bridge deck will be closed for maintenance work. The work will include an annual inspection to ensure the integrity and increase the longevity of the structure. The work is expected to last through Friday, July 22, 2016.

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Burnsville Lake in Burnsville, W.Va., will host a visit to the Civil War era at the 2016 Heritage Day Festival on July 16, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bulltown Historic Area.
  • Sutton Lake Campground Update

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Summersville Lake continues efforts to get the recreation areas at Sutton Lake in Sutton, W.Va., open to the public. The Gerald Freeman Campground is scheduled to reopen on Friday, July 8. Some campsites will remain closed. Visitors are encouraged to minimize the number of vehicles they bring. Parking on the grass will not be permitted. The South Abutment Day Use Area reopened today (Wednesday, July 6).
  • Summersville Lake Update for Tuesday, July 5, 2016

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Summersville Lake continues efforts to get the recreation areas open to the public. Here are the latest updates: - The Long Point Marina boat ramp is open for boater and marina traffic. The restroom is closed; portable toilets are available. - Salmon Run boat ramp and restrooms are open to the public. - The lake is open for boating. Muddlety Cove near Rt. 39 Bridge is closed. Boaters should use caution to avoid floating driftwood and debris. - Battle Run boat ramps will re-open as soon as flood cleanup work is completed. - The Battle Run Campground and beach will remain closed until further notice. - Muddlety Kayak/Canoe Launch Facility will remain closed until further notice. - The Damsite Picnic Area and overlooks are open. The lake and recreation areas will re-open as quickly as possible. Restrooms, water systems and electricity will remain closed until they can be put back into service.   • Summersville Lake Update - July 3

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The US Army Corps of Engineers at Summersville Lake experienced the second highest lake pool of record on June 25, 2016. The recreation areas at Summersville have flooded and are being repaired.
  • West Virginia Flooding

    The Huntington District’s Water Management Team supported the District’s response to the significant precipitation event which stretched from North of Columbus across Central West Virginia and resulted in historic flooding. The precipitation ranged from 3-9 inches across West Virginia. Camden on the Gauley, and Webster Springs experienced the highest stages ever recorded. The point precipitation that occurred at White Sulphur Springs was greater than the 1000 year event. Of significance, Summersville and Sutton Dams operations resulted in reductions of 12 feet at Belva, 10 feet at Kanawha Falls, 8 feet in Charleston, 4 feet at Frametown, 2 feet at Clay, and 1.5 feet at Webster Springs. The flooding has caused severe damage and destruction to homes and businesses across the state and stranded multiple individuals, requiring evacuations and rescues. To date, 24 fatalities were caused by the storms; a Presidential Disaster Declaration was initially issued for 3 counties and then an additional 7 were added.
  • Bicycle Tour of the Rock Island Arsenal

    Rock Island, IL - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project announces that the Mississippi River Visitor Center at Locks and Dam #15 is inviting guests to bring their bicycles for a tour of historic Arsenal Island. This six-mile ride will be held on Sunday, July 17th from 11:30am – 1:00pm.
