• USACE FED’s leadership development program class of 2020 recognized

    The Far East District USACE Leadership Development Program (ULDP) class of 2020 was recognized on their graduation July 8 at the district headquarters. The team consisted of six GS-12 and KGS-11 employees from various career fields and was named WIP6, which stands for “Work in Progress 6.”
  • Corps spills 100 gallons of oil at Bonneville Dam, removes unit from service

    On Monday, July 13, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District (Corps) discovered a Bonneville Dam turbine thrust bearing leaked approximately 100 gallons of oil into the Columbia River. The Corps is dedicated to rapid spill responses and is in the process of repairing the equipment. The generating unit is no longer leaking.

    HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District announces the Greers Ferry Lake Shoreline Management Plan has been approved and a Finding of No Significant Impact has been signed.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards contract to dredge Maumee Bay

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has awarded a $2.1 million contract to Ryba Marine and Construction to conduct dredging of the federal navigation channel in Maumee Bay, located along Lake Erie in Toledo Harbor, in the City of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.
  • Army Corps updates water release schedule at Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2020 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan. The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Precipitation throughout the early part of the summer has enabled the Army Corps to schedule the first five increments of the plan.
  • New Hammock Area Installed at Saylorville Lake

    In the past couple of years, “hammocking” has become a growing trend across the country and now people wishing to “hammock” can do so in a designated area at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Saylorville Lake project. Typically, use of a hammock on Corps property is strictly prohibited but thanks to the installation of hammock poles, people can now enjoy the activity without breaking rules or damaging trees.
