    As a research civil engineer with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL), Justin Roberts began exploring ways to use his blast mitigation expertise in protecting unique facilities from large scale explosive testing and his past research experience with structural responses to dynamic loading to develop a new approach in keeping personnel safe.

  • Fall releases from Rathbun Lake unlikely this season

    CENTERVILLE, IA - Present conditions at Rathbun Lake appear to be unfavorable for the U.S. Army of Corps Engineers to conduct a fall water release this year as the pool elevation is currently below the multipurpose level, 904.0 feet. To provide a fall release for the benefit of state and privately managed conservation and recreational areas in the Chariton watershed downstream of Rathbun Lake, the pool elevation needs to be at 905.6 feet or above to have adequate water storage to conduct the fall water release. In addition, the weather forecast for the next 7 days shows little to no precipitation which contributes to the low probability for a fall water release.

    Dr. Edmond Russo has been selected as the director of the Environmental Laboratory (EL) at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

  • UPDATE: Army Corps updates road closure status at Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced the Route 940 entrance to the Francis E. Walter Dam will reopen on Sept. 21, 2020 (delayed from the previously announced date of Sept. 18, 2020). The Bear Creek White Haven Road entrance to the dam will then close to traffic as road repairs shift to that area.

    With September and October being the peak hurricane months, the Omaha District's rapid response team stands ready to offer disaster relief assistance should the need arise. According the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association the 2020 hurricane season has already set a record by logging 20 storms as of Sept. 14.

    GALVESTON, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $15,494,310 to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, LLC for the first phase of the Freeport Harbor Channel Improvement Project.
