Tragically, people lose their lives while visiting USACE-managed lands and waters every year. Most of the tragedies are water related. The public’s help is needed to reduce the number of fatalities at the more than 400 USACE-managed lakes and river projects nationwide. USACE personnel stress the importance of water safety year-round when talking with visitors, but especially during the summer season because that is when most public recreation fatalities occur.

    BOISE, Idaho – The Walla Walla District will be starting a rehabilitation project for the Turner Gulch boat ramp on Sept. 1, which will require Lucky Peak Lake to draw down starting the third week of July, shortening boating season by about a month.

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Dworshak Dam is currently releasing 9,200 cubic feet per second for summer temperature operations. Starting Sept. 1, Dworshak will gradually decrease discharge to 1,600 cfs by the end of the month.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Nearly 90 percent of drownings at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ lakes are adult males and it seems arrogance – thinking they can swim and lame excuses, like life jackets are uncomfortable or unflattering, lead to drownings in many cases.
