  • Twinkling lights, holiday cheer return with ERDC Under the Lights

    Employees at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) have been hard at work stringing lights and hanging bows for ERDC’s annual holiday lights celebration. The public event is set for Dec. 7-8, from 6-8 p.m., with a separate employee-only night scheduled for Dec. 6. Visitors should enter through Gate 3, just south of the Main Gate at 3909 Halls Ferry Road.

    ALVA, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District invites the public to participate in a day of service at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam South Recreation Area near Alva during National Pollinator Week, on Saturday, June 24, from 7:30 a.m. through 4 p.m. The Corps is looking for 100 or more volunteers of all ages, for any amount of time, to plant nearly 9,000 Florida native pollinator wildflowers and grasses.
  • Headwaters Highlights: Volunteer edition at Woodcock Creek Lake

    In 2004, due to the USACE volunteer program, Mark Ritke installed a dozen bluebird boxes at Woodcock Creek Lake, which fledge more than 50 bluebirds yearly. Because Mark monitors his bluebird boxes regularly throughout the nesting season and uses predator guards, he has a nearly 100 percent fledgling success rate.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites volunteers to plant trees at W.P. Franklin Recreation Area on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24

    ALVA, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District invites the public to participate in a day of service at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam Recreation Area near Alva on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 24, from 7:30 a.m. through 4 p.m. Activities include planting close to 3,000 native trees to reforest open land, provide habitat restoration and educational opportunities for the local community. “We welcome volunteers of all ages to help us plant trees in an effort to reforest roughly 8.5 acres of land to create a natural Hardwood Hammock habitat at the W.P. Franklin Recreation Area as part of our Engineering with Nature Program,” said Col. James Booth, Jacksonville District Commander. This is the first of several opportunities that will be available to members of the local community who would like to volunteer to plant and restore native canopy and understory plants and grasses in an open area at the W.P. Franklin Recreation Area.”

    The Friends of Raystown Lake and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are calling on volunteers to participate in a shoreline cleanup at Raystown Lake during the annual Lake Cleanup Day, Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tatman Run Recreation Area (rain or shine).
  • USACE seeks volunteers for cleanup at Millwood Lake

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Millwood Lake Project Office will host a shoreline cleanup as part of the Great American Cleanup, on May 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cleanup will be held in cooperation with Millwood Lake State Park. Volunteers interested in assisting should check in between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at the Millwood Overlook located at 1140 Hwy 32 East, Saratoga AR, 71859.
