NR 15-016: Corps offers tours of Dale Hollow Dam Power Plant

CELINA, Tenn. (May 22, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering the public free guided tours of the Dale Hollow Dam Power Plant located in Celina, Tenn. Not all portions of the dam will be accessible to the public due to safety concerns.

NR 15-013: Lake Barkley opens up powerhouse, lock, Resource Management Office for public tours

GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (May 19, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering the public free guided tours of Lake Barkley’s Powerhouse, Lock and Natural Resource Management Office. Approximately two hours in length, tours are scheduled June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15, 2015, with tour start times of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.

NR 15-10: Corps offers tours of Cordell Hull Dam Power Plant and Lock

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 8, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering the public free guided tours of Cordell Hull Power Plant and Lock located in Carthage, Tenn. Not all portions of the dam will be accessible to the public due to safety concerns. Approximately 45 minutes in length, tours are scheduled on June 13 and July 11, with the tour beginning at 10 a.m. both days.

Corps touts environmental stewardship at Nashville Earth Day Festival

Intermittent road restrictions continue as hydro project progresses

The mild weather this week has allowed crews at the Red Rock Dam to continue working day and night to prepare the site for construction of a powerhouse and intake structure that will comprise the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project (RRHP). Short-term road closures, directed by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, will occur in the overnight hours every three to four days as crews move large rebar cages from the North Tailwater staging area to the construction area on the upstream side of the Dam. In addition, Highway T-15 will be restricted to one lane every three to four days to facilitate staging of the concrete trucks to ensure worker and public safety as the wall element sections are poured.

Employees overcome winter storms to keep river projects operating

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 12, 2015) – Snow and ice blanketed the Cumberland and Tennessee River basins twice over the past month, which severely hampered travel in rural areas. Despite winter’s effect on transportation, it did not prevent a handful of very dedicated Corps of Engineers employees from going above and beyond to keep hydropower plants operating and navigation locks open for the movement of commerce.

February runoff higher, but 2015 Missouri River forecast still slightly below normal

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Missouri River Basin Water Management Division reports runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa was 2 million acre feet (MAF) during February, 186 percent of normal. The increased runoff was caused by above normal temperatures in the upper Missouri Basin that limited river ice build-up, and melted both plains and low elevation mountain snows. However, the 2015 runoff forecast in the same reach is 24.6 MAF, 97 percent of normal, and the March runoff forecast is about 1 MAF less than in February.

Prep student shadows Nashville District engineers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 27, 2015) – A local high school sophomore shadowed a number of very experienced engineers today at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to learn more about the jobs and educational requirements of the career field.
