    HENDRY COUNTY, Fla.  -  (Dec. 19, 2023) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (USACE) joined federal, state and local officials to celebrate the completion of a new pump station for the Caloosahatchee (C-43) Reservoir Project today. The C-43 Reservoir, once completed, will hold approximately 170,000 acre-feet of water (55 billion gallons) and is part of the state-federal Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) to restore the environment and make our water resources more resilient.

  • USACE employees rescue turtle hatchlings during rare discovery

    It was a typical site visit to view progress on a local beach restoration project – until it wasn’t. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District employees Lindsay Brantley, Jennifer Tyler, and Brooke Warlitner were traveling along an access road toward Summer Haven to view a beach disposal site when the convoy of vehicles in front of them suddenly began to stop.

  • USACE announces public comment on water management deviation from the Combined Operational Plan to lower water levels in WCA-3A

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces the opening of public comment on the Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for a planned, temporary deviation from the 2020 Combined Operational Plan (COP). The COP is a comprehensive, integrated Water Control Plan (WCP) for the southern portion of the Central & Southern Florida (C&SF) Project – including Water Conservation Area 3A (WCA-3A), Everglades National Park (ENP), and the South Dade Conveyance System (SDCS). Public engagement is encouraged, and comments are due Monday, November 6.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (USACE) announces a hybrid public meeting on October 26 and and opens public comment on the on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the North of Lake Okeechobee Storage Reservoir Section 203 Study, also known as the Lake Okeechobee Component A Storage Reservoir (LOCAR) Section 203 Study being conducted by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). Comments are due Thursday, December 7, 2023

    ALVA, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District invites the community to Trunk or Treat at the W.P. Franklin South Lock and Dam Recreation Area near Alva. The event will take place in the Visitor Center parking lot on the evening of Saturday, October 28, from 5 p.m. through 7 p.m. “We are excited to host our very own Trunk or Treat at the W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area this year,” said Megan Parsons, Natural Resources Specialist. “We welcome the community to come out and join us for some Halloween fun! You can volunteer to decorate your car trunk or truck, and give out candy, or bring your children to join in the festivities and paint some wooden pumpkins. This event will be fun for the whole family!”
