Update-NR 17-029: One-lane traffic set for Center Hill Dam bridge inspection

LANCASTER, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2017) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that traffic crossing Center Hill Dam will be subject to one-lane, one-direction control from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21, 2017 while maintenance personnel perform a routine inspection of the bridge.

NR 17-013: Public meeting to address blasting operation near Center Hill Dam

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 4, 2017) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Thalle Construction Company, construction contractor, will discuss upcoming blasting operations near Center Hill Dam during a public meeting 5:30 p.m. May 9 at the Resource Manager’s Shop Conference Room located just below the dam at 158 Resource Lane in Lancaster, Tenn.

Training simulation rescues dummy to save lives

LANCASTER, Tenn. (March 30, 2017) – Maintenance workers, mechanics, electricians and safety personnel recently descended into confined spaces deep within Center Hill Dam to rescue a trapped dummy in a training simulation. The group set up a tripod rescue system, placed it over an opening in the power plant floor and used a horizontal lift technique to hoist the mock victim 30 feet to safety.

District geologists educate Mosul Dam engineers on GIS modeling

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 17, 2017) – Five engineers from the Ministry of Water Resources at the Mosul Dam project in Iraq and one engineer from Trevi S.p.A., the construction company working on the project, recently completed three weeks of training with a U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Data Management Reach Back Team. They learned about a Nashville District developed Mosul Dam Geographic Information Systems model, the GIS software, and the geology model of Mosul Dam.

NR 16-023: Road closure scheduled for inspection of Center Hill Dam

LANCASTER, Tenn. (Sept. 9, 2016) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that the section of State Highway 141/96 that crosses over Center Hill Dam will be closed to all traffic 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12-15, 2016 while engineers conduct an inspection.

NR 16-017: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards final rehabilitation construction contract for Center Hill Dam

Nashville, Tenn. (July 5, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District announces the award of a $42,972,545 contract to Thalle Construction Co., Inc. to build a concrete reinforcing berm downstream of the Center Hill Auxiliary Dam. The contract was awarded on June 27. The work also includes stabilization of a previous rock cut near the main dam.

Center Hill historical marker dedicated

LANCASTER, Tenn. (Oct. 27, 2015) – Local community leaders and Corps officials dedicated a new Tennessee state historical marker today that highlights the technical significance of Center Hill Dam and Powerhouse and the project’s authorized purposes, which include recreation, hydropower, and flood risk reduction.
