Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commanding General and the Chief of Engineers, toured the Philadelphia District and met with leadership, staff, student interns, and the crew of the Dredge McFarland during an April 23 visit.

This year’s newly renamed Stripes and Stars Festival will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at locations throughout Independence National Historical Park and Historic Philadelphia, including Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, and the National Constitution Center.

Army Corps to hold final water releases of season from Francis E. Walter Dam

The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District has announced the Francis E. Walter Dam has enough water storage for a final addition to the 2013 recreation plan. The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be added if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Wet conditions throughout the summer have allowed the Corps to add the 10th and final increment of the plan.

USACE holds emergency response exercise in Philadelphia

More than 150 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel descended on Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia June 10-14 to participate in a national emergency response exercise. The exercise, which involved simulating response activities to a category 3 hurricane, was designed to prepare teams and individuals for real events.

The added variable can make repairs more difficult, costly and time-consuming. Through resourcefulness and innovation, the Corps' Philadelphia District and its contractor are nearing completion of work at the Point Pleasant Canal.

Army Corps begins assessing Hurricane Sandy damages

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District began inspecting its projects for damages and carrying out post-storm missions following historic Hurricane Sandy. Inspections are scheduled for a number of Army Corps of Engineers projects in the region, including coastal projects in New Jersey and Delaware, dams in eastern Pennsylvania and navigational channels in rivers and inlets. District Commander Lt. Col. Chris Becking inspected the Absecon Island beach nourishment project in Atlantic City and Ventnor on Oct. 30.
