Environment, sense of community restored at Westmoreland Park
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers partnered with the City of Portland to restore the portion of Crystal Springs Creek that flows through Westmoreland Park in southeast Portland. The Corps removed a man-made duck pond and restored the area to a natural wetland. Restoring ecosystems and improving watershed health are important Corps missions.

Hydropower model tests generate positive results for Center Hill rehab project
YORK, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2014) – Corps experts witnessed a series of tests this week on a “small-scale” turbine model in a laboratory at Voith Hydro Inc. The tests were completely successful and the positive results will keep the Center Hill Hydropower Rehabilitation Project schedule on track.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded three contracts for environmental restoration services at various formerly used defense sites throughout California. The contracts total about $6 million.

Corps awards $24 million contract for deep water channel dredging
The Sacramento District awarded a $24 million contract Sept. 17 to Ross Island Sand and Gravel Co. of Oregon for maintenance dredging along the Sacramento and Stockton deep water ship channels.

Accelerated Folsom Dam spillway progress estimated to reduce project emissions
Analysis of air quality compliance for the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway project released August 18 found that increased construction activity would likely cause emissions to exceed federal thresholds for 2014, but could help reduce total emissions over the life of the project.
