    When walking into Humphreys High School, students can see walls, electrical wiring, outlets, windows or maybe cranes as they look outside Ms. Valerie Mitchell’s classroom window. Five engineers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District pointed these items out as they described engineering and how it affects everyone on Camp Humphreys during “The STEAM Source” speaker series Nov. 7, 2024.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District and the Vicksburg chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) hosted a math competition for local students Jan. 26 at the district’s headquarters in Vicksburg, Miss. The math competition was for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Students from St. Aloysius High School, Porter's Chapel Academy, Academy of Innovation (AOI), Bovina Elementary, Bowmar Elementary, Beechwood Elementary, Redwood Elementary and St. Francis participated in the event.

    On April 14, a team of U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) leaders visited Mississippi State University (MSU). The event — designated as ERDC Day — consisted of classroom presentations, an exhibit/student intern showcase and a public affairs panel to link MSU students to ERDC.
  • Fifth graders help Army engineers

    In early December 2021, several 5th grade classes at Zundy Elementary in Wichita Falls, Texas helped beta test the Missouri Basin Balancer web-based video game for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division. Throughout 2021, the Northwestern Division and Omaha District worked with USACE's Engineer Research and Development Center to get the game updated.
