  • Corps awards contract for completion of Bois Brule flood risk management project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District recently awarded a $7.3 million contract to Eagle Eye Electric, LLC of Bonne Terre, Missouri for the completion of 4.3 miles of levee restoration and the completion of two seepage berms.  With support from the project sponsor, the Bois Brule Levee District, this is last remaining feature of work to be completed on the Bois Brule Deficiency Correction Project to correct for under seepage and changes in levee grade.

  • Late spring storms bring high flows, potential debris on Lake Pend Oreille

    Heavy precipitation from a series of late spring storms combined with above average and late-melting snowpack runoff have significantly increased inflows into Lake Pend Oreille and increased flood risk downstream of Albeni Falls Dam. The Pend Oreille River has exceeded flood flow and is likely to stay above that threshold for the next week.

  • Upper Mississippi River System Hydraulic Model Update Complete

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island, St. Paul and St. Louis Districts recently completed a seven-year effort to develop an updated, standardized hydraulic model for the Upper Mississippi River System, including the Illinois Waterway. The model can be used to evaluate and communicate the effects of floodplain modifications to provide better predictability and more consistent flood risk management for the Upper Mississippi River System.

  • Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area Welcomes Visitors for 2022 Season

    The William B. Hoyt II Visitor Center at the Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area opens to the public Sunday, May 1 for its 2022 visitor season. This year marks the return of inside-the-dam tours after a two-year hiatus, the first full season of online tour reservations, and 70 years since construction of the dam was completed. Located on the Genesee River next to Letchworth State Park, the dam provides flood protection to downstream communities, including the City of Rochester, as well as a place to enjoy nature and outdoor recreation in its day-use park.
