    South Bay, Fla. – Feb. 22, 2023 -- Groundbreaking ceremonies have been used for centuries to celebrate the start of a new venture and give thanks to those who blazed a trail and made it possible.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, and the South Florida Water Management District teamed with federal, state, and local officials along with stakeholders to break ground for the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir, a major component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan that reconnects Lake Okeechobee water to the central Everglades.

  • Lake Okeechobee releases planned for Sediment Study on February 21 through 24

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District plans to execute a minor adjustment to the current lake release schedule from Tuesday, February 21 through Friday, February 24, that will release water from Lake Okeechobee as part of an ongoing sediment study by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

    CONCORD, Mass. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District received a permit application to conduct work in waters of the United States, navigable waters, and the Outer Continental Shelf from SouthCoast Wind Energy in Boston for proposed work in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Memphis District celebrates Kellinsky's retirement

    "The best part of my job here at the Memphis District was building things for people," Memphis District Carpenter Steve Kellinsky said. "I loved being a carpenter and I loved the Army, so I always looked at it like getting paid to play in a billion-dollar playground." After dedicating more than seven years of service to the Memphis District, 11 to the federal government, and six to the U.S. Army, Steve Kellinsky is celebrating his recent retirement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District as a carpenter.

  • USACE requests public comments and hosts virtual meeting Feb. 24 on draft documents for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project (KRRP) Increment 1 Temporary Deviation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District requests public comment on the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the proposed Kissimmee River Restoration Project (KRRP) Increment 1 Temporary Deviation, Osceola and Polk counties, Florida. The project non-Federal sponsor is the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). Comments are due March 7. A virtual informational meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. There will be an opportunity for formal public comment during the meeting.

  • USACE and SFWMD announce four virtual workshops in February for development of C&SF Flood Resiliency Study alternatives

    The Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District will host a series of four virtual workshops in February as part of the C&SF Flood Resiliency Study. Each workshop is a standalone session that will focus on development of preliminary alternatives for one of the planning reaches discussed at the planning charrettes held on January 11 and 12. Each session will also include a recap of the problems, opportunities, objectives, and constraints collaboratively developed on the first day of the planning charrette. The management measures and conceptual ideas developed for each planning reach on day 2 of the charrettes held in January will provide the starting point for preliminary alternative development.   • USACE holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Caño Martín Peña’s Ecosystem Restoration Project in Puerto Rico

    San Juan, Puerto Rico., Jan. 31, 2023 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District and the “Corporación Proyecto ENLACE del Caño Martín Peña” hosted a ground-breaking ceremony marking the start of the ecosystem restoration project in the Caño Martín Peña residential area.
